Stockport County

Fans call for crisis meeting

THE Stockport County Supporters' Trust are hoping to meet chief executive Niels de Vos tonight in the wake of Cheshire Sport owner Brian Kennedy's statement that he was open to offers to sell the club.

Neil Chapman, spokesman for the Stockport County Supporters' Trust, said: "Nobody knows exactly what Brian Kennedy wants.

"It's important we know what he wants to do with County. We don't want to see County die, we just want what's best for the club.

"Brian has come out and made certain statements in the press but I can't believe a businessman such as himself didn't realise the financial expenditure involved in running a club like this."

Chapman is hoping the meeting will clear the air between the two parties, although it is not known whether Kennedy will be in attendance.

However it is thought de Vos and marketing manager Kevan Taylor are likely to be present.

"We want to pre-empt anything bad happening and we have asked for this meeting for the benefit of the Stockport people," added Chapman.

"We want to promote the club for the people of Stockport and if another commercial venture takes place then we hope the club will be in safe hands. We don't want to see what's happened at Wrexham or Chesterfield."

Kennedy has recently come in for criticism for paying more attention with the rugby side of the club.

Tonight's meeting could help clear up any confusion over the future of both codes, as well as any financial backing Kennedy might have in mind.

What next for County? Have your say.

Mr Kennedy knew exactly what he was doing when investing in SCFC. There a two types of successful industrialist - those with an overwhelming sense of integrity and intellect, and those that will will pull any trick in order to achieve their objective. WHich category does Mr Kennedy fall into? The diatribe about "Stockports best interests" is sickening. How can the interests of the club be served by making it effectively homeless? He planned this from the word "go" - if it wasn't so obvious it would be comical. Even if he has spent B#3.5m, it is still a fraction of the cost of building a new ground for his beloved Sharks. I know Mr Ellwood is unlikely to challenge Mother Theresa for ethical standards, but at least he did love the club and support it financialy for 13 years. I don't blame him for seizing the opportunity to re-coup his investment. Mr Kennedy, however is a different story - I suspect his creditors are not finding quite so easy to do business with County anymore. He will continue to squeeze until there is nothing left.

Can't believe what I'm hearing about my beloved club. What did this jerk pay for the clubs name and ground. Stockport council should purchase the whole box and dice from this guy, get the best pr guy they can and turn it into a community club again. A couple of quid on everyone's rates would pay for it. Give free tickets on a rota basis to the ratepayers as payback. Bring in policies to nurture local talent from the manchester area with a sell on clause in their contract for any "stars" we produce. How many youngsters have we seen go the Utd and City only to fade away because they didn't get the chance to play before the public. If you were 17 and had the chance to play for County - even for nowt - wouldn't you have given your left bollock just to pull on that jersey. There would be more effort than the bunch of moneytakers we have now. I would rather see a bunch of hardtrying kids lose than what we have now

In my opinion kennedy bought stockport county for the ground and sooner or later there will not be a stockport county at edgerly park or even at all, he is clearly more interseted in the rugby and is tring to make county not excist. just look near the players bar were the 2 badges are the sale sharks badge is painted on and the county badge looks like a sticker
