Kennedy has said while there were currently no bids on the table, he was prepared to listen to genuine offers if a takeover was in the interest of either County or Sale Sharks RUFC.
The two clubs currently share Edgeley Park under the umbrella of Kennedy's Cheshire Sport, but rumours surfaced this week of a bid for the football club from local businessman Stephen Parfett.
That has been ruled out by Parfett and County's managing director Kevan Taylor, and Kennedy will, for now at least, continue to back the strugglers.
However, the future remains uncertain. Kennedy said: "Since Cheshire Sport took over I've spent '3.5m of my own money just to keep County breathing.
"I realise how much the club means to the community, and our objectives are community led.
"I didn't buy County to reap financial gains, and I'm not in it for an ego trip, but the overall objective has always been to get the business to break even. We're committed to losing another '1.5m by the end of this season. I don't want to see Stockport County die.
"If someone did come in with a bid for either of the two mutually exclusive businesses, I would listen. I have already received a couple of enquiries.
"I wouldn't want anyone to come in and then six months later see the whole lot go down the pan. However, if any move was in the interests of County, then I would happily hand over the reins, and the same goes for Sale Sharks.
"The future is clearly in our minds, but let's see what happens."
Kennedy also said that he made an error in appointing Sammy McIlroy as manager in September, 2003.
There's no doubt it has been a dreadful 2004-05 campaign for Stockport County, but Kennedy is convinced that he now has the right man in the manager's position.
He said: "We are all extremely disappointed with how things have panned out this season. Sammy McIlroy was afforded a budget which was way over initial projections because we wanted to compete in League One and hopefully make a push for promotion.
"We invested a load of money into County and ultimately will lose afortune, and it's been a terrible season.
"We clearly hadn't appointed the right manager and the right management team, but I must take full responsibility for that.
"I just got it wrong when I appointed Sammy McIlroy, but now I think we've got the right man in Chris Turner. He is a good guy and his appointment is an intelligent long-term one. He'll knock Stockport County into shape. If we drop this season we drop though, I've done everything in my power to try and make County a success but it has just not worked out yet.
"Things are improving on and off the pitch though, the team is improving and we'll keep on striving to get the financial side right.
"There is a chink of light shining in the hope that County avoid relegation, but Saturday's defeat at Peterborough was a terrible result.
"But Chris Turner knows the situation and we've already planned two budgets for next season, one for if County stay up and one for if we go down." Tweet

Very clever Mr Kennedy, if SCFC ends up with new owners, I suppose it means the football club will have to rent the ground it once owned from you and your beloved Sharks. I don't believe for one minute there is any intention of considering offers for SS, he must think we are all as thick as the people he has working for him.
SOME COUNTY FANS NEED TO TAKE A REALITY CHECK.BRIAN KENNEDY HAS PROVIDED STABILITY ,NOT HINDRANCE.MCILROY ASKED FOR MONEY,GOT IT AND THEN PRODUCED A TERRIBLE SIDE.WHY IS THAT THE OWNERS FAULT?.WE ARE A SMALL CLUB WHO HAVE OVER-ACHIEVEDIN THE 90'S SAD,BUT TRUE,THE DECLINE STARTED BEFORE MR KENNEDY.
B#3.5 Million of his own money, think not ,Saved himself B#210.000 in Tax on his own money ,and written the rest off against against capital gains and business tax, probably saved HIMSELF HIS REAL OWN MONEY about B#1million
good init !
I bet most County fans did the lottery this week with intention of winning and buying the club,
it wouldnt like you think it would , I'm in the motor trade and football directors put us all to shame, not just kennedy all of them, just a big tax fiddle
look at that chap who wants to buy MU He couldn't afford to by us Cash! all a bunch of cheats
I think being stable means neither improving nor getting any worse.
AB if you think we are not getting any worse just compare the league table now with when Kennedy bought the club, I think you will notice a significant decline.
I agree with A.B. Kennedy backed McIlroy there is no doubt about that. Just a pity he picked the worst manager in footballing history to back. Too early to tell about Turner. Let's face it, it was just about physically impossible for McIlroy to have left the club in a worse position. Turner will presumably show the door to all McIlroy's expensive (in wages terms) recruits and we'll have a new team next season. Goodwin has to go too, as soon as possible although I accept that there's not a club anywhere in the world who would want him. I'm still not sure about Lambert. The guy has talent in abundance but application appears to be non existent. Whichever way you cut this, things do not look good for the future of County.
Kennedy may have put 3 mill into County's cause but we've seen next to nothing for Chris Turner to spend, which to be honest we need to do if we're going to be competitive in l2 next year.Meanwhile Kennedy continues to pump money into SS-read summat in the paper this morning about Salewanting to sign Rugby League stars Kris Radlinski and Andy Farrell...come on County,at least beat Vale or the Latics.I'll be following from Germany
Rob,if you read my comments again, you'll see i said the decline had already started before kennedy joined. The stability he provided was financial, not management. He has done no worse than Elwood did in his last few years, think about the regular sales of players when we were still in old div 1.under Elwood-Moore,Dinning,Cooper,etc.It's lack of decent crowds and local support that are the longstanding problem.FACT:McILROY ASKED for five new players to go 4 promotion,,got them+ produced a terrible side.
AB, Financial stability and success at most small clubs like county is virtually impossible. When we used to look forward to watching county in the 90's we had good managers and a good board which brought in the players needed to get us promoted and that was the investment which got us to 7th place in the 1st division. The teams that are doing well are the ones which spend a bit, in this division it is alomost impossible to achieve success without it.
Do you genuinely feel that Cheshire Sport consider SCFC as anything more than the vehicle that got them the ground they wanted, at least when BE was here everyone knew he was passionate about county and put the money in without wingeing every few weeks.
BK has a team of accountants working for him and if they couldn't see what they were in for financially they should be sacked, it is unacceptable for him to complain about putting the money in, but as has already been said by Simon I think, B#5m for a ground is cheap.
Look at Oldham, players on loan from MU, MC, Birmingham, they don't cost in the long term but are the signings that we should have been making to try to secure safety this season, the reason we haven't got them is because CS see this as a poor business risk.
You quote losing IM, KC etc, these players went on to bigger clubs for big money just like Derek Geary & LB this season (but not for big money), when a player wants to leave it is not easy to keep them, look at Savage leaving Birmingham.
Sammy Mac didn't get the financial investment you seem to think, look at the players he brought in, they were all free ( and mostly rubbish) transfers I think, apart from WF who cost B#45k, we got B#100k for Alby where did that money go? Now CT is restricted by CS to loaning Joe Dolan.
I just hope there is somebody out there with the desire that we have got and loads of money ready to bring us back the heady days of DB, DJ & GM, wouldn't it be nice.
i agree with you,Rob re. the loan signings-i've never understood why County haven't used any utd, city players, etc.
However, with respect,i still disagree over summer signings.I clearly remember Mcilroy saying end of last season that with 4/5 new players and Beckett back,he wanted to push for promotion.I don't accept they were rubbish signings.I followed the transfers in the summer and they were Mcilroy choices and county had to beat off quite a few other clubs, presumably financially,to get signatures. That was not the board doing it on the cheap, nor was Mcilroy's appointment.-Mcilroy messed up big time and produced a really unmotivated side this year.
with regards to needing money to succeed,of course it helps.however i went to brentford away in august, they r completely skint,no reserve side and had collecting buckets outside. They're now in play-off position and i also think Luton have had no money either?I really think it's down to football management foremost. Not many county fans i know were bothered when Alby left,Clare moreso. The problem is,if u don't have c.s. then who else.we have a small fan base and no rush to invest.we are not a great investment, that's surely why Elwood got out. Here's hoping for some good news!!
We the fans of Stockport County need to stand frim, and show these people that we care and want the club to survive and move forward .
we are down this season only the 9th wonder is going to save us now
get everybody you know in that ground tomorrow
Come on County !
I still can't believe that there are people out there who believe that CS did not back McIlroy!! He got the players he wanted. An overpriced bunch of midgets in signing-on fees and wages terms!! Just look at the backing he got compared to what Turner is getting now. Poles apart I'm afraid. I'm amazed CT took the job if he did indeed know and understand what was going on. No blame can be put at his door. You could get an assortment of people off the local park who'd be better than the majority of players left at Stockport. I blame McIlroy 100% but it's too late now - all done and dusted I'm afraid. A generous, passionate benefactor is the only possible saving grace but don't hold your breath.
Its really tragic to see the demise of County week by week and another division drop seems inevitible. I hold my hands up and admit that I was one who wanted to give CS a chance and hoped that something positive would come from the joint venture with SS. As events have unfolded over the last 3 months or so it seems that CS just wanted the facilities that County offered in order to promote rugby union and are not interested in the football club. Where do the Football authorities stand on this issue? Imagine the furore at the FA if this happened, for example, to United, Liverpool or Arsenal, surely there must be scope for an investigation into CS about 'bringing the game into disrepute'.
I suppose we should wake up & smell the coffee.
Perhaps we can all reflect how clever CS was when it employed the manager with the worst international goal-less record in memory. And wasn't it only a few months ago that De Voss moved back from the football front line (to spend more time with his more successful rugby team Sale Sharks) so that some other patsies could take the blame for the failing football team performances.
Very clever indeed
Me suspects that Sale Sharks must have been the EP grand plan all along.
all this money we're supposed to be getting your telling me that every county player is on over B#2000 a week i wouildn't give them 2000 pence the way they play i think it is best for the club if they sell us and put someone in the chair who wants the club to suceed not Sale Sharks
