County aren’t expected to name their new boss until after the weekend as chief executive Graham Shaw and the remaining board members whittle down a five-man shortlist.
Former boss Jim Gannon and ex-Luton manager Mike Newell remain favourites to take over the Edgeley Park hot-seat, but whoever gets the nod will have to do without defender Jordan Rose as the club plan for a promotion assault on the Blue Square Premier.
Rose, plucked from non-league Paulton Rovers last summer, announced he had not been offered a new contract via Twitter, posting: “I have been released Tweeps. Thanks for all the messages, wish you all the best for the future.”
But when asked who had made the decision in the absence of either a manager or a chairman, after Mary Gibbons’ resignation on Wednesday, Rose replied: “No idea.”
Academy product Tom Fisher, who made 28 appearances for County last season scoring once, also confirmed that he had been released via Twitter.
The Hatters have just three players – Matty Mainwaring, Mark Lynch and Matt Glennon – contracted beyond the summer.
And with Paul Turnbull and Greg Tansey expected to attract offers from higher up the league ladder, the new manager will be left facing a desperate race against time simply to put together a first team squad before the club’s first pre-season friendly against Vauxhall Motors on July 19.

That’s the first decent thing they’ve done at SC for 12 months ,getting rid of the dross called the first team ,let’s hope they can turn things around with some younger honest players who want to be there, and decent people at board level
The article is misleading. From what I've heard they've offered some contracts to the dross!! Even Turnbull has been offered a contract!!!!! Hear that? Weeeeeeeeeeee! That's the sound of us dropping down another league!! The loonies are still running the asylum!
