WITH new boss Chris Turner looking on from the directors box, County turned in an inspired performance on Saturday.
In Mark Lillis's last game in temporary charge and after four games without a win since Sammy McIlroy left, the Hatters finally turned on some style and in doing so made up some crucial ground at the bottom of League One.
After Turner's unveiling on Saturday morning, the County players clearly came out with a spring in their step against a side who themselves had only welcomed new boss Danny Wilson just over a week ago.
And what a dream start the home side had. Barely 70 seconds had passed when a high, hopeful cross from Warren Feeney was somehow spilled by Dons goalkeeper David Martin right at the feet of Jon Daly who swept the loose ball home from just a yard out.
John Hardiker and Mark Robertson then tried efforts from long range, but the Dons finally came to life and on 22 minutes Steve Palmer headed disappointingly over from close in from Nick Rizzo's corner.
Palmer then came to the rescue at the other end as he bravely blocked Marc Bridge-Wilkinson's flying volley.
County earned themselves some vital breathing space just before half-time as Daly's luck was in again for his second goal.
Robertson's initial shot was blocked, the ball fell to Daly who fired home via a wicked deflection off the rear of Gareth Edds.
Rickie Lambert should have wrapped up victory on the stroke of half-time, but after racing clean through he side-footed his shot a whisker wide of the post.
The Dons tried in vain to get back into the game after the break - with Feeney going closest for County - until the 77th minute when substitute Alex Tapp danced through the Hatters midfield before firing home a low shot into the corner past midweek villain Neil Cutler.
However, youngster Ashley Williams settled County's nerves on 86 minutes when his powerful shot from 20 yards proved too hot to handle as Martin let the ball squirm under his body and into goal.
