LDV Vans Trophy: Stockport County 3 Bury 1 (1-1 full-time)

STOCKPORT squeaked home against nine-man Bury in a full-blooded LDV Vans Trophy first-round match at Edgeley Park.

The Shakers had Chris Porter and Paul Scott dismissed and boss Graham Barrow sent to the stands as County claimed their first home win of the season.

'I am just shocked,' said Barrow. 'The opposition fans were coming up to me in the stand to say how harshly we'd been treated.'

Stockport took the lead in the 15th minute when Jon Daly turned the ball in after Danny Jackman's shot had been parried by Glynn Garner.

But County's familiar problems from set-pieces continued when Paul Scott equalised with a header from David Flitcroft's corner in the 25th minute.

Scott headed against his own crossbar in the second-half and Rickie Lambert was inches away with a piledriver, but Bury also had their chances.

But the game was effectively ended when fussy referee Mark Cowburn gave Porter a straight red for handling the ball into the County net.

Barrow's continued fury at that decision led to his banishment in extra-time.

A fine cross by Danny Adams supplied sub Stuart Barlow's 95th minute header.

Scott received his marching orders in the 105th minute for swearing at the ref and County's teenage sub Adam Le Fondre settled the win with a mishit cross that sailed over Garner's head.

County's assistant boss Mark Lillis said: 'The gaffer had a little go at the players both at half-time and at the end of full-time.

'But it's a massive boost getting a result. It would have been all doom and gloom if we'd lost, but we've now got a draw and a win to build on.'

Held 1-1 at full time by an average side a division below us and by all accounts lucky not to lose. What is happening at County?
