ENCOURAGEMENT Gary Ablett

STOCKPORT County sank to their third straight defeat after Joe Anyinsah’s goal sealed victory for Carlisle United at Edgeley Park.

Anyinsah struck after 64 minutes to secure all three points – but it was a performance that would have given great hope to Hatters boss Gary Ablett.

County had endured a catastrophic start to Saturday’s clash with Bristol Rovers, but they were positive from the first whistle against the Cumbrians.

Straight from the kick-off, Carl Baker ran at the Carlisle defence, played a neat one-two with Peter Thompson before shooting wide.

It set the tone for County and they threatened again moments later through Danny Pilkington and then James Vincent.

County were much the better team, with the midfield three of Baker, Vincent and Greg Tansey over-running Carlisle’s Graham Kavanagh and Tom Taiwo.

But after 14 minutes they were dealt a sucker punch – debutant Kevan Hurst expertly bending the ball into the net with the outside of his right boot after Michael Raynes had headed out to the edge of the box.

The lead was undeserved, but seconds later County were level in fortuitous circumstances.

Baker crossed from the right looking for Thompson and Richard Keogh’s attempts to clear the danger only resulted in him heading the ball over his own goalkeeper and into the net.

But it wasn’t enough to earn a point, after Anyinsah rolled Gianluca Havern’s challenge in the box and slid the ball under Owain Fon Williams.

County had late chances to snatch a draw – Michael Rose hitting the post direct from a corner and Raynes heading just wide – but Carlisle hung on to clinch the points.

Not a County fan but I fear for you. I said in the summer when some crack addict posted that County were 2 good seasons away from City that you were actually 2 bad seasons away from the Conference. I stand by it. Ablett is untested. The team is untested. They need investement. I wished that maybe the bigger clubs in Greater Manchester would do more for you. City have done a lot. What have United, Bolton, Wigan etc done????????????????

This was a pretty good performance with smome excellent passing and movement in the middle of the park. Tansey, Pilks, Baker and Poole all impressed me. We know we're more than up against it, but there's no excuse not to support the team when they put in the effort they did last night. We should not get hung up on how few points we are going to accumulate this season but focus on keeping a team together and slowly improving so that we have a solid basis for league 2 next year. Two things do worry me: Firstly when are we going to learn that 4-5-1 with "Peter Thompson, Stranded No. 9" is not going to work. Secondly, whilst we must expect schoolboy errors from inexperienced players, can we not learn from them? They seem to arise 4-5 times every game.

It was clear walking away from Saturdays performance that our concerns are becoming realised - I hold some optimism that the manager aided by a very well thought of assistant will develop the team to being competitive within this League - however I sense there is need for time and time unfortunately is of great value when competing with such handicap of a small inexperienced and torn-apart squad. I am hopeful that present time is being spent wisely to assess where we need to strengthen and I admire the no-panic approach which I am hopeful is being employed - but on Saturday I saw no penetration, pace, cohesion or direction on the pitch!! We need a wise head at the back – some battling qualities in the middle of the park – pace and variation out wide but most importantly we need a strike force which will cause worry, all of which, I am afraid, is lacking AT THIS TIME – but hey!! There is time!! But not much of it – good luck lads and fight all the way!!

Why should any other club help us?

Ken, what have you ever done for County except for choosing not to support them in favour of a bigger club?

Don't come on here full of solutions when your big club fan mentality is part of the problem that has put County in this intolerable situation. Insulting.

Mullet vision,i take it you are one of the support your local team brigade well let me inform you back in the days of friday night is county night when you had to play fridays to get a crowd i along with many other blues and reds did support your club by turning up and paying our money otherwise you would have gone down the pan long ago,i support city because its a family thing in the blood etc like i suspect your love of county is so dont expect anyone else to be any different!.To blame non county supporters for your predicament is ridiculous and poorly thought out try looking a bit closer to home ie chairmen and groundsharing...genius.Hope things work out but try to lose the small club the world is against us mentality by the way was at the game last night but dont need to sit there listening to you lot slagging city off..will be a while before i attend again if i do!remember just because we live in stocky dont have to support them.

I pointed out it was part of a bigger problem and I stand by it.

Bill Williams, Stuart Lee, Floodlights, Friendlies, Freddie Pye, etc... That's what City have done for County.

Er Ken, Bill Williams & Stuart Lee played for County before City as did Terry Park.

Exactly. City bought them to provide much needed cash relief despite the fact they were a, Not required and b, utter dross.
