Stockport County

Preview: Peterborough v Stockport

A PASSING remark by Tommy Rowe about little brother Danny led to the Rowe boys making Stockport County history.

When 17-year-old Danny came on as a sub at Elland Road last Saturday to join Tommy, 20, they became the first brothers ever to play together in the Hatters' first team.

"Obviously I've always known about Danny's ability although we'd never played in the same team before with the three-year difference in our age," said Tommy.

"In a way he came to Stockport on my recommendation after he had spells with United, City and Bolton.

"When I signed my latest contract the gaffer asked in an off-the-cuff remark `You don't have any brothers, do you?' And I told him about Danny.

"He deserves his chance for all the hard work he's put in in training."

Danny, who was also a playing substitute against Walsall on Monday, will be hoping to get the nod when County play at second-placed Peterborough tomorrow.

Although the brothers, who hail from Wythenshawe, both favour left midfield, Tommy says there is no fraternal rivalry.

"I think he may be a bit quicker than me, but I think I've got the better football knowledge," he added. "There's no real rivalry. He listens to what I've got to tell him about the game and he asks me questions which shows he's keen to learn.

"I don't know if we'll play together at Peterborough. The gaffer is full of surprises and we'll just have to wait and see.

"He's always looked to promote young players and maybe the only positive thing about the club's current problems is that young players like Danny and Andy Halls, who's only 16, are getting their chance earlier than they might have thought."

County have just one win in 11 games, but Tommy insists that despite the club's financial problems, the players are as united as ever.

"We've been on a bad run lately, but the mood among the players is very good and we'll be giving 100 per cent to get a win down there," he said.

A lack of fit professionals meant Jim Gannon was only able to name three subs for Monday's game against Walsall.

But there was better news regarding County's injury list for the trip to London Road. Paul Turnbull and Leon McSweeney trained yesterday while Michael Rose and Dom Blizzard were both expected to train today.

However, James Tunnicliffe and Matty McNeil are still out.

Really hope Im wrong but I fear county will be on the end of real hiding tomorrow. The Posh will be smarting after a defeat last weekend and unfortunatly county are on such a poor run of form its just as well they are well clear of the bottom 4 - you never know with Jims team but I think this will be a 4 or even 5 nil defeat. Come on boys prove me wrong.

Yep last i looked we were about 25/1 for 5-0, Got an Idea get the trust to put all the money they have on 5-0 at 25-1 Conrad in Goal that will get us out of this mess easy, why didn't we think of this before?but don't tell anyone as its illegal.but on current form we'd have a good case.
I think we may nick it 1.0 to be honnest, think they may be a bit edgey and watching the other scores, if the kids go out enjoy themselves and perhaps shoot a bit more , up the County!
