Leon McSweeney had earlier put County ahead in a fine second half performance that made sure it wouldn't be a happy return for former Stockport manager Chris Turner, now in charge at Hartlepool.
Dom Blizzard and James Tunnicliffe both picked up knocks at Scunthorpe on Saturday, so young midfielders Vincent and Greg Tansey were given their first starts of the season.
A tense start, not helped by the threadbare Edgeley Park pitch was enlivened by a bit of magic on the left by Tommy Rowe that set up Michael Rose for a curling cross to the far post where McSweeney headed over.
The Irishman attempted to make up for his miss with a left-footed strike soon after which was just inches over.
More clever play by Rowe opened up space for Matty Mainwaring whose shot was blocked in the area with Matty McNeil's follow up suffering the same fate.
County were almost caught cold at the start of the second half with keeper Owain fon Williams having to make a double save in the first 30 seconds with Joel Porter's shot coming through a crowd of players.
County had been putting the visitors' goal under sustained pressure before taking the lead in the 55th minute, McSweeney reacting quickest to Rose's cross, guiding the ball into the corner of the net with a low volley.
Vincent could have added a second within minutes but scuffed his shot wide.
Fon Williams made another good stop from Porter after the Pools' man had cut in from the left.
Vincent lashed the ball home in the 64th minute after setting himself up with a good first touch racing to the edge of the area before unleashing his shot.
Hartlepool sub Michael Mackay made it a nervy last six minutes for County when he shot low inside the post.

As a member of the trust, I can honestly say that it hasn't given me any serious say in how the club is run. My local club Ebbsfleet Utd is owned by Myfooballcub.com and the members of that have a definite hands on approach to the club.
We've been seriously short-changed by the trust and the recent events have proven how amateur their approach has been. I would love someone to prove me wrong!

Over 95% of league clubs are not Trust's and are run much more successfully than SCFC at present. The key fact that proves that trust status is the wrong way forward is the simple fact that the wonderful Mr Kennedy insisted that ownership must only go to a trust, therefore if he thought that this was good for SCFC it clearly wasn't as has since been proved.

The Trust should have never signed such a poor deal, but they were led by power hungry egos who wanted to play Football club owners.
