Another youngster who has risen through the ranks at County, Huyton-born midfielder Tansey is regarded as a hot prospect for the future at Edgeley Park. Tansey made his professional debut against Macclesfield in October 2006 and was an integral part of the club's under-18 team who lifted the Youth Alliance League Cup in 2007. His outstanding display in the final of the competition alerted Liverpool, and Tansey joined County teammate Ryan Crowther on trial at Anfield in Summer 2007. Both of the County youngsters impressed the Premier League club's coaching staff, but while Crowther signed for Liverpool, Tansey opted to stay and fight for a first-team place at Edgeley Park. Owing largely to an injury crisis at the club, Tansey got an extended run in the senior side at the beginning of the 2007-08 season, and he adapted well to the demands of regular first-team football. Later in the season, after the return from injury of several County first-team regulars, Tansey joined Altrincham on loan and helped The Robins avoid relegation from the Conference.
