Stockport County

Preview: Barnet v Stockport

STOCKPORT County boss Jim Gannon wants his side to pull out some more of their excellent away form for two vital games in the next four days.

Victories at Barnet tomorrow and Chester on Tuesday night would keep County's hunt for automatic promotion from League Two going until the final day of the season - whatever the results elsewhere.

"It's been our forte, doing well away from this season," said Gannon.

"The players have enjoyed performing on decent pitches.

"We just need those same players to go out and apply themselves as they have been doing recently."

Hereford's victory over Wrexham in midweek lifted Graham Turner's side four points clear of County, but Gannon believes the pressure is mounting on County's promotion rivals.

"It was a good result for Hereford, but I was more disappointed for Wrexham going out of the league," he added.

"But Hereford can't afford to drop any points in their last two games.

"The pressure is still very much on them, they won't want to lose a top-three position after being up there so long. We, on the other hand, can still enjoy the excitement of being up there chasing that third spot.

"We know we've got a tough game at Barnet, who are always decent at Underhill.

"There's a lot of talk about them not having anything to play for, but they've got enough good professionals to make it hard for us.

"They'll definitely be wanting to finish with a win in their last home game of the season."

County will be without defender Shaleum Logan, who has been recalled from his loan by Manchester City due to an increasing list of injured defenders at Eastlands. Gannon intends to bring in Michael Rose and reshuffle his defence for tomorrow.

He said: "We did consider bringing back Paul Turnbull from his loan spell at Altrincham, but we didn't want to do that with them having such a big game tomorrow at Weymouth.

"But Paul and Greg Tansey will both be back at the club on Monday."

Barnet have agreed to open another section at Underhill tomorrow to incorporate the extra County fans expected to make the trip down to London.

Well this is it, three games to go. I see that County and Hereford both play Brentford, tomorrow the Bulls take on Brentford away and the ref is from Stockport!!
Keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow that we will win for the first time there. I am expecting, if Raynes is still unfit, that Smith will return to right back, big mistake last week to play him in the centre, McNulty to partner Owen and Rose to return to left back, no doubt he'll have Proudy on the bench and Gleeson will come in for Pilkington. Come on County.

This will be a real toughie. They beat us well last season and hammered us at EP earlier in the season. Have to stay focused and believe. Go for it County.

Another powerful away performance and its a major step towards automatic promotion. No club has done the double over county this season, so I can see it being a 2-0 win, Dicko and Rose
