Preview: Stockport v Mansfield

Jim Gannon
STOCKPORT County boss Jim Gannon will taking nothing for granted when relegation-threatened Mansfield visit Edgeley Park tonight.

Mansfield lie in 23rd spot - three points from safety, but under new boss Paul Holland the Stags are unbeaten in their last three games.

And Gannon believes his side will have to be at the top of their game if they're to get the win that will make them equal points with third-placed Hereford United.

"There's no such thing as a walkover," said Gannon. "I said before the Macclesfield game that these are the teams that are showing the form.

"Mansfield have been galvanised with a a new manager coming in.

"There is a new impetus about them.

"Great credit to them - they won a huge battle against Wrexham and they got a valuable draw on Saturday and they're really creeping up on Notts County.

"The one thing we said about Mansfield is that they're capable of winning games and Notts County are playing for draws. I think that's becoming the big difference.

"Mansfield's away record has been excellent and they've got some players with a touch of quality.

"So we're going to have to play well, defend well and if we put in a good shift let's hope we can put ourselves in a position where we can strike for the top three."

Seven wins in an eight-game unbeaten run have made County the League Two's form team and Gannon is determined to enjoy the end-of-season run-in.

"What a joy the last three or four months have been," he added. "Things were intense and unenjoyable when people were putting me under pressure and the players under pressure.

"We knew then we need players to come back to full fitness.

"Gary Dicker and Dom Blizzard have only played in the last three months and you can see why we signed them.

"How times have changed. Everyone is right behind us and giving us great credit and the players deserve it because they've been playing immensely.

"The boys have grown over the last three months and I'm enjoying every minute of watching them play. I'm going to enjoy the next six games."

Gannon will be without on- loan striker Ryan Lowe, who lasted only eight minutes of his County debut against Darlington on Saturday before suffering a shoulder injury.

Young prospect Tommy Rowe then came off the bench to set up Liam Dickinson's winner and will probably start tonight. Mansfield will include former County midfielder Keith Briggs, who left Edgeley Park at the start of the year, in their squad.

County goalkeeper John Ruddy has won the Powerade Player-of-the-Month Award for March.

The 21-year-old, who is on loan from Everton until the end of the season, was in outstanding form during March helping earn 16 points from a possible 18 and keeping five clean sheets from six games.

Awards chairman Chris Kamara said: "He has a marvellous record since joining the club - only conceding a penalty in six games during March."
