Stockport County

Preview: Stockport v Macc

STOCKPORT have signed Bolton's striker Johann Smith on a 28-day loan.

The American will go straight into Jim Gannon's squad to face Macclesfield Town at Edgeley Park tonight.

"I'm looking forward to playing first-team football," said Smith, who has started three times for Wanderers this season, including a league debut against Manchester United.

"I'm pretty fast and strong on the ball and those are the assets I use to the best of my ability.

"My good friend Leslie Thompson was at Stockport and he had a lot of good things to say about the club."

Stockport have been looking for extra support for top scorer Liam Dickinson ever since Anthony Elding left the club at the end of January.

County will be looking for a sixth straight victory as they aim to continue the form that has lifted them into fifth spot in League Two.

Certainly tonight's opponents, led by new boss Keith Alexander, are aware of the size of the task they face.

"Jim Gannon has done an excellent job there and, if I'm honest, I would prefer not to be playing them at this time," said Alexander. "No-one will be expecting us to get anything from this game. We're expecting a hard game because they're playing really well."

After two successive wins, the first successful brace of the season, Alexander may not want to tamper with his Macclesfield team.

But he could still find a place for 19-year-old loan striker Scott Spencer.

The Everton player was only on the pitch for 20 minutes in last Saturday's 2-1 victory over Shrewsbury but he dazzled spectators with some audacious dribbling.

Last season: Stockport 1 Macc 1

Key opponent: Francis Green - striker has scored two in two

Prediction: Stockport 2 Macc 1 - County are flying at the moment and should have the edge

Unlike last season Jim is getting his squad stronger for the run-in. In fact there are strong rumers that Gleeson is signing on Wed. after his loan at Herefore expires. Tonight should be a real cracker with county running out winners by 3-1. Dicko, Pilks, Rose (Pen)
