TOMMY Rowe's first goal in senior football helped stretch County's unbeaten run to eight league games.
But there was little else to enjoy in a disjointed game on a terrible pitch.
Notts County took the lead in the ninth minute in controversial fashion. Richard Butcher's corner evaded everyone in the home box and the ball was deflected goal-bound by Mike Edwards.
Conrad Logan appeared to have grabbed the ball on the line but the linesman ruled it was over, leading to a furious protest from the Stockport keeper.
County were back on level terms in the 22nd minute of the match with the best move of the game, begun by Greg Tansey.
Jamie Smith played the ball forward to Anthony Pilkington, who cut the ball back for 18-year-old Rowe to slot home.
With the visitors happy to play for the point, it wasn't until the 45th minute that County created another chance, Michael Rose going close with a free kick.
A forgetable second half finally came to life in the 89th minute when sub Leon McSweeney hit a powerful 25 yard shot inches over the bar.

Every game I go hoping that at last I will see Ashley Williams making a pass that finds a County player. Every game I come away disappointed. In 40 years of watching football mostly at the lowest level, he is the worst distributor of a football I have ever seen. Even more surprising then that Gannon's sole tactic seems to be to get the ball to Ash for him to punt forward! Alan, Offerton
It is often said the the county fans are the 12th man, unfortunatly the pitch has nullified that advantage. Even the wet pitch at Gigg on Tuesday was so much better than the bog at EP. Jim and the players must be so frustrated that their home game carry no advantage as they are unable to play decent football. A win on Sat would have seen county in a play-off position, and thats still possible, if Jim can find a style of play to adapt to the home conditions.
How about Gannon starting with two up front for home games instead of the bizzare tactic of playing only one up front in home games agaisnt bottom of the table outfits Tod?
The pitch is the same for both sides two points out of the window because the manager slected the wrong team and tactics.
3 points would have been great and it would have lifted us into a playoff position but on the bright side, (yes I like to look on the bright side!), I was really chuffed for young Tommy Rowe getting a goal. That is invariably a huge boost for a young player's confidence. Apart from that weve still got one defeat in our last 12 league games (8-3-1) and right on the heels of those playoff positions.
Tough one on Tuesday but I wouldn't be surprised to see us get something as we've been such a team of road warriors this season. Wonder what we might have done at home with a decent playing surface? Lately anyway, I think that earlier in the season we did lack a bit of skill or imagination but with new additions and certain players back from injury I think you're right Tod, it must be frustrating trying to play on a pudding instead of a pitch. Always much easier to prevent than invent on a poor pitch.
Come on County, at least I don't have to crawl out of my pit to fire up the old PC at 7 am on Tuesday!
More worrying than the result, performance or pitch were the antics of the manager. What did he think he was going to achieve by holding his watch every time they had a throw in or free kick. We knew what this referee was like after his display against Lincoln so rubbing him up the wrong way was never going to achieve anything. As if that wasn't bad enough he then proceeds to antagonise him even more by waiting for him at the tunnel at half time.Jim, we all know your views about referees but the bottom line is that we are never going to get the best referees coz we ain't in the best division. I admit that Saturday's ref is one of the poorer ones but thats just something we've got to live with.
Having a go at the board in his programme notes might not be such a smart move either. I'm all for being open and above board but some things are better kept behind closed doors. If Jim wants to be completely honest perhaps he can tell us why Elding was suspended for a week and how much we eventually sold him for
Jim what an earth are you doing, 4-5-1 at home against a team that are 5th from bottom, you baffle me!!!! It should be 4-3-3, you dont pick the same team week in week out, you moaned about the board selling Elding are you Benetez in disguise. Come on we should have wrapped up 3 points on Saturday + be sat in 7th place now...
