Stockport turn to Blues for a fan-fest

THE postponement of Stockport County's derby with Bury means the Hatters' fans will have gone without first team football for two and a half weeks.

The Shakers at least have a home game against Bradford City on Tuesday night to look forward to if the waterlogged Gigg Lane pitch recovers in time.

To fill their gap, County have organised a friendly at Curzon Ashton tomorrow night when skipper Ashley Williams could make his first appearance since suffering his knee injury at the beginning of November.

County were due to host Mansfield Town next Saturday, but that game had to be put back because of the Stags' continued involvement in the FA Cup.

But Edgeley Park will still see a game that afternoon with County welcoming Manchester City in the Manchester Senior Cup.

One player who can't wait to run out in front of the County crowd again is recent signing Jim McNulty.

Singing

The left-sided defender, who signed from Macclesfield Town earlier this month, made his debut in Stockport's last game against Accrington Stanley.

"I was amazed with the fans because I'm not used to playing in front of that many fans at ahome game," said McNulty who is eagerly looking forward to County's next league game against Chesterfield a week tomorrow.

"I watched our fans at Notts County and they did a lot more singing and were a lot more noisy than the home fans."

McNulty, who prefers playing at left-back, was co-opted into central defence alongside Michael Raynes - not that he was complaining.

"There are a few injuries to the main centre-backs and the gaffer asked me to do a job there which I was more than happy to do," he added.

"Left back or centre back I'll have a go wherever."

With County going strong on a four-game winning streak, McNulty is sure the play-offs are a realistic aim.

"We've got to be looking up now, there's no point looking behind," he said.

"If we carry our run on, it will definitely take us to the top end of the play-offs."

Do you think County will make the play-offs? Have your say.

We have a chance of making the playoffs this season as long as we don't peak too soon like last season, if we can keep it together and then get to April in a challenging position the successive games against Darlington, Peterborough and MK Dons will be very interesting. Keep the faith.
