STOCKPORT County legend Andy Preece has spoken of his "shock and sadness" over the death of Danny Bergara.

Preece renews his acquaintances with old team mates Jim Gannon and Peter Ward tonight when the Hatters travel to Blue Square North outfit Worcester City.

"It's really sad news," said the ex-Bury boss. "I didn't know Danny had been ill and I'm still in total shock.

"He brought me from Wrexham to Stockport and that was the start of the upturn in my career. If I had to say who the most influential person on my career has been, it would be Danny Bergara."

On a happier note, Preece is looking forward to meeting up again with Gannon and Ward. "Jim was on the same management course as me at Warwick University while Wardy did a bit of scouting when I was at Bury.

"They've done a great job at County and it will be brilliant to catch up with them."
