Hull City 0 - 1 Macclesfield Town

Macclesfield manager David Moss steadfastly refused to entertain thoughts of the play-offs despite masterminding his side's third successive win in just six days.

This time high flying Hull City were brought down to earth with a bump, their manager Brian Little admitting that his side had been totally outplayed by the better side.

However Moss was damping down expectations: "The priority when I came here was to avoid relegation and until that is no longer a mathematical possibility I will still be looking over my shoulder.

Macc moved into 12th spot courtesy of a superb display in all departments, the spirit typified by Dave Ridler's acrobatic scissors kick clearance off his own line in the 2nd minute.

But the game didn't really get going until the second-half, Rickie Lambert lighting the touch paper with his ninth goal of the season - a superb 15yard bullet from a narrow angle to the roof of the net in the 55th minute.

Hull's Ryan Williams then made the home side's task all the more difficult by using obscene language to the referee after coming off second best against the aggressive but fair Danny Adams.

Macc then hit the frame three times in five minutes. Steve Macauley was the first to smack the woodwork, heading a Lambert cross bar onto the far post.

Next Karl Munroe was first to arrive when Paul Musselwhite spilled a David Smith drive only to cannon a shot from six yards on to the cross bar.

Worse was to follow the excellent Lambert crashing a 20 yard drive on to the post before Matty Tipton cracked the rebound straight at the Tigers' number one.
