Youri’s Bolton boost

Bolton new boy Youri Djorkaeff has won the World Cup and European championship in a glorious career with France.

But manager Sam Allardyce is convinced that his Reebok backroom team can make him an even better player and prolong his career.

Djorkaeff, 34 next month, has signed a short-term contract until the end of the season but Allardyce isn't writing off the chance of him staying, especially if he helps Wanderers beat the drop out of the Premiership.

Allardyce said: "When somebody comes to Bolton they normally want to stay at the end of their contract unless they've got something hugely better to go to.

"We've done that with many players over the years and I don't think that will be any different with the players we've just brought in.

"Every form of help is given to them, both on the pitch and off it.

"We can make players better than they already are - even Youri. We could extend his career a lot farther than he thinks with what we do here, seven days a week, week in week out. We cover every single aspect of football.

"After a game we can tell him how many times he's run, where he's run, how many times he's passed the ball and where to.

"We can tell him what to eat at 6-0 in the morning, 11-0 in the morning, 1-0 in the afternoon and 7-0 at night. We can tell him what pills to take, what water to drink, what carbohydrates to take - everything."
