Charlton delight at 'ugly' win

BOLTON fullback Simon Charlton admitted that Wanderers had ended their grim run with "an ugly win."

But there were no apologies as Charlton agreed with his gaffer, Sam Allardyce, that Bolton have played better and lost - as at Newcastle seven days earlier. Overall it was a scrappy game which will only live in the memory for the fact that Wanderers won.

But Charlton pointed out: "It might have been ugly win but the ability to win games when you haven't played well is what has made Manchester United such a great side.

"The chief has been dying for us to win a game, even if played rubbish, because it has been heartbreaking to play well in games and get nothing.

"It was time that something went our way.

"Not only did we win but most of the other results went our way as well.

"Winning this game is a much-needed break and, hopefully, it will be a turning point in our season.

"We have five or six crucial games coming up now after playing Manchester United and Newcastle.

"Draws are no good to us at the moment and the next few weeks could be the make or break part of our season."

Will beating the Hammers give Bolton the boost needed to help them avoid releagtion? Have your say on this story.
