PAUL Jewell seems to have admitted defeat in his battle to sign Jeff Kenna.

The Wigan boss was keen to sign the Blackburn defender having been impressed by his performances during his month's loan spell at the JJB Stadium.

But despite Kenna also being keen on a move to secure regular first team football, the two parties failed to reach an agreement.

"I think that deal's dead now because we can't agree personal terms," Jewell told Wigan's official site.

"We have made what I think is a very reasonable offer but Jeff sees it differently. There's a big gap between Division Two and Premiership football and we couldn't match what Blackburn are paying him.

"You can only make an honest offer and Jeff is totally right to turn it down if he doesn't think it's the right move for him. So it's disappointing but we just have to move on and look for someone else."
