Nelson boost for Bury

Andy Preece has been boosted by Michael Nelson's remarkable return to fitness.

The defender, who joined the Shakers from non-league Bishop Auckland in the close -season suffered a horrific injury against Wigan in early September, which was expected to sideline him for months.

But, astonishingly, he's now fit and raring to go, which will delight manager Preece, as Nelson had proved an instant hit at Gigg Lane after his first seven games for the club.

Nelson had been told that he could expect to be out for at least three months after a collision with Shakers 'keeper Paddy Kenny left him with a collapsed lung and fractured ribs.

But he's proved a quick healer and is a hurry to return and help ease Bury's present plight.

"I'm feeling good again and I can touch my ribs and move them without feeling any pain," Nelson told the Bolton Evening News.

"It was the worst injury I've ever had and I was quite shocked when they put a drain in my chest to help me breathe.

"The worst I've suffered before is just strains. This is the longest I've been out of action and I'm itching to return."

If there are no setbacks, then Nelson could be in the frame for the Shakers trip to Cambridge on October 13.
