Prem tie up big-money deal

MANCHESTER United and their rivals will be playing for a é50million pay day when they set out in pursuit of the 2007/08 Premiership title in August this year, thanks to the revenue agreed in a new global television contract.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore has detailed the riches available to the winners - and losers - in English football's championship from next year onwards.

They represent an increase of almost é20 million for the top club, on the prize scooped by current champions Chelsea for their success last year.

Scudamore told the Daily Telegraph: "This deal really does take us on to another level.

"It means that the team at the top - who got é30million last year - will get around é50million, while even those at the bottom will receive about é30million."

That near equality of remuneration is possible because of the new é625million deal negotiated by Scudamore, adding to the huge pot already generated by existing domestic broadcast and internet contracts.

Let's hope Mr Scudamore recognises the role the fans play in making the premiership so attractive for the TV moguls by ensuring some of that huge pot is used to reduce ticket prices, otherwise that all important atmosphere they need (and take for granted) may soon be a thing of the past.

Starting with M.United and followed up by Chelsea. These teams started to dirty the beautiful game that is Football by turning it into a business where Money means more than the GAME. Now this deal sets it in concrete. RUINED forever.....
