Bury too sharp for new tenants

BURY put tenants FC United in their place with a 2-0 victory in a friendly at Gigg Lane.

The two clubs signed an agreement on the pitch before the game to seal the North West Counties League side's stay at the stadium for the next three years, before treating the 2,674 fans to a lively game.

The Shakers turned out four or five first-choice players, and took the lead on 27 minutes when FC defender Rob Nugent put through his own goal, and Damian Quigley powered in a header four minutes after half-time

Meanwhile, ex-Bury striker Jon Newby struck after 25 minutes to give Chester a 1-0 friendly victory at Droylsden. But the Bloods almost snatched an equaliser when he fired narrowly wide.

Friendly or not, there was little to choose between the teams. If we had been beaten by 7 or 8 goals it would have been no disgrace, but we held our ground against a team many divisions above us. One after- thought, where were the Bury fans, did they think it was beneath them to watch their team play such minnows?

Where were the bury fans?
I was at the game and i would say the crowd was split half and half if not slighlty more bury fans. The end that bury fans were in, the main stand holds nearly twice as many as the south stand where fc fans were. which wasn't even half full. i have got to admit that you sang for almost the full game which was good, but i think your forgetting that, that was a very weakend team that you faced last night, mainly youth team players and you gave us a good game, but i don't think there will be more than two or three players from our team who will start the first league game of the season next saturday. i liked the look of your right back eddie murphy i think he's called. he could do a job for us in the league. wish you all best for the coming season

Id say Bury were lucky to get 500 there.

Mind you sat in silence all game, the fans were hardly noticed anyway.

I love the early results and attendance figures produced by FC this season. I can see the plastic fans now, beginning to bend back: "Well, I guess Glazer is not that bad afterall . . . " Glazer is one of the best owners in the NFL and I think even Joe English Manchester United fan is beginning to realize he is a pretty damn good owner. I don't think Glazer will ever be able to reach the truly delusional fans like Free Red and Stu B, but I think the true fans stuck by Man United all along, while the ones who ran get to support their toliet team. Good luck this season FC, I will be scanning attendance figures and comparing them to my satellite picture counts.

For the record, I agree with Matt from Heywood (maybe near Jiblome?) Bury FC turned out a large group of reserves and non-starters and still crushed FC with their talent. Good luck on that whole 10 year plan. Maybe Andy forgot to add the extra zero. There are enough zeroes among the FC supporters to spare a few.

I half expected our players to get overrun by a team five divisions above us, but that really wasnt the case. For FC to lose 2-0 was respectable result so well done our players, I am sure the experience they will have gained from this match will stand them in good stead. I would like to thank Bury for the extended ground share and take this opportunity to wish Bury FC all the best for the new season, especially against MK Dons. Viva la revolution, come on FC.

Poor old Little Jockey so small he can't even see over the barrier because thats the only explanation I have for the fact that he couldn't see that the majority of fans were Bury supporters and that Bury fielded a vastly inexperienced team to give players a run out. Really Bury should have been called a Bury XI as it would have made it clear that they were fielding a weaker team.

Next up, SHEFFIELD FC v. FC UNITED. The Worlds oldest club will be taking on Englands newest club, tomorrow, 29 July 2006 at the Don Valley Stadium, Worksop Road, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S9 3TL. Club Tel No. 07711 955 941. k.o. 300pm. Pay on the gate ??7 adults and ??3 kids. DIRECTIONS. From the M60 leave at Jct. 24 and taking the M67 east for Mottram changing for the A628. Continue along this road down hill heading for Glossop until you reach a set of light at the bottom. There is a pub on your lift called the Gun Inn at this Jct. Now you have a choice of which route to take over the Pennines. You can turn right onto the A57 through the High Peak which eventually takes straight into the hart Sheffield. In Sheffield change for the A61 south half mile then the A6135 for about 100 yards turning right onto the A6109 half mile then change for the A6178 for about a mile. Worksop Rd is on the right. If you want to avoid Sheffield city centre, take the Woodhead pass from the Gun Inn by going straight on over the Pennines along the A628 changing for the A616 to Jct 35A of the M1. Take the M1 south to Jct 24 connecting with the A6178 (coming in from the other side). Worksop Rd is on your left. The latter is slightly longer but probably the easiest and fastest. Viva la revolution, come on FC.

Half the crowd were Bury? Surely you jest, from a crowd of 2,600 there were no more than 400 Bury tops, and that's being generous... cracking performance from the boys in red, bodes well for this season...

Another point, from tuesday's game, if fc are meant to be there own team, set up from dissilusioned man utd supporters, why all the man utd songs? can you explain this? keano, keano ? ole gunnar sols, uu argh, cantona, what have these got to do with fc united? and especially the argentina, argentina? what is all that about? i don't think an argentinian has ever turned out for fc united, who are you fc united or just man utd fans who can't afford to go or can't get a ticket, i don't think that will be the case next year when there sitting fifth in the table with a capacity of 76k.

Also, STOCKPORT COUNTY U18s v. FC UNITED u18s. For those who are interested our under 18s will be playing on Saturday 29 July 2006 at 11.00am. There will be time to watch this fixture before setting off for the Sheffield FC match. Kirkham & Wesham FC Reserves v. FC United reserves is also been played on Saturday 29 July. Unfortunately, this k.o. is also at 3.00pm and will clash with the Sheffield FC match. Sunday would have been better but not to worry, you can still watch two out of three. Matt, Heywood. Keano because he stuck it to the prawn sandwiches eating muppets. Ole because he is a member of SU/MUST. Cantona because he is an FC fan. Argentina, Argentina is actually Margentina, Margentina after Karl our manager. As for OT, I wouldnt even consider going until the fans have a minimum ownership of 25% . Trust this clarifies. Oh, and FC fans did outnumber Bury fans by at least 3 to 1 and thats being seriously generous in Burys favour. Not that it matters to me. Anyway, hope you have a good season.

Any success yet in tracing the thug from the Altrincham game or is the enquiry being conducted by the IPCC (which should ensure complete exoneration). By the way Stu your job giving directions is safe. The new service on the FC site is to put it politely bobbins.

I made the trip over to Sheffield and I was really disappointed to see the poor FC turn out. Whats that with rumours of 6,000 then? More like 600. Is this the beginning of the end of our massive support? Have all the glory hunters jumped ship? Perhaps the bunch of middle aged men trying to recapture their youth on the terraces have finally gone back to their comfy armchairs. I know we have had a bad run of results and lost again yesterday but I am going to stay loyal to FC. Just as well Barry was back to save the penalty though.

You forget that Man United only managed to take 400 to Celtic. There will be the usual at Gigg lane plus a few more new faces when the season starts on the 12th August.

Fighting on Preston like your comment on the guy who forgets...more like he cant remember!!!!! Seriously anyone who comments about our pre-season crowds needs to wake up and UNDERSTAND
that the normal gate for a FIRST team fixtures in NWCLD1 is about 200. If we beat that how could anyone complain. Doesnt it dawn on the thikkos that our away support easily beats United's at Celtic and Preston and City's wherever they play.

Little Jockey but FC was suppposed to be a different kind of football club rather than compete with United. I know that the football isn't up to much but I joined because of the principles involved yet all you and some other thickos seem to bang on about is the numbers of crowds and how succcesful you are. Surely its live by the sword and die by the sword isn't it? Nothing wrong with having a few bevvies and a good old sing song on a Saturday but there you go again making comparisons with top clubs when its clear that FC can't even beat minor clubs albeit that they have a much greater history. I assume from the tone of your reply you couldn't get a ticket for the Sheffield game. Did you watch it on Channel M ?
