ROBINSON - Spent most of the afternoon worrying whether he had the right factor sun screen on, but then showed his mental alertness with a terrific dive and parry from Jason Euell's fierce shot. Certain starter against Paraguay barring injury, but he always was. UP
CARRAGHER - With doubts lingering about the injured Gary Neville, the Scouser enhanced his case for inclusion with a strong display in defence and even replicated Neville's attacking ability to set Crouch up for his hat-trick goal. UP
A. COLE - Gave everyone a scare by limping off after 35 minutes, but - unless his thigh tweak is worse than the England camp are letting on, he remains a must for the Paraguay game. DOWN
FERDINAND - Breezed through the game against the limited threat of the third-rate Jamaican strike-force. No mistakes, but he was under no pressure, so the real tests of his occasional dodgy concentration lie ahead in Grmany. UP
TERRY - Tried to claim a goal that he got nowhere near, but is a big threat at set-pieces as well as a commanding figure in defence. He made England's sole defensive cock-up, and limped off with a knee knock, but remains undoubted first choice. DOWN
BECKHAM - Those arcing free kicks will have England's group opponents shaking in their boots. In the last few games he has blown away those critics who had started to question whether he merited his bullet-proof status in the side. UP
LAMPARD - Still seems to be some confusion over roles when he and Gerrard play together, but he did what he does well for Chelsea, popping up in the box to score the opener and finishing neatly. UP
GERRARD - Even had he produced the mother of all stinkers, would be a cert to start the World Cup. He is now the engine of the side, and one pass to set Lampard away was pure quality. UP
J. COLE - Has proved that he has matured enough for both club and country to be regarded as a real talent on the world stage, and is the obvious solution to the left-sided midfielder conundrum. UP
CROUCH - Forget the daft dance and the even dafter penalty, Crouch has shown that he can scare the pants off opposition, especially those not used to tall strikers. Confidence sky-high after scoring five in last three games. Will start. UP
OWEN - Did what he always seems to do, bubbled under for half an hour, nipped in for a goal, and then subsided into anonymity again, before emerging to earn a penalty - but he is certain to start. UP
Subs
CAMPBELL (for Terry 32 mins) - Injury to the Chelsea man gave Campbell a valuable hour on the field. Still looks short of match sharpness, but tays deputy to the first-choice pairing. DOWN
BRIDGE (for A. Cole 35) - Tried to busy himself amnd get forward, but his defensive frailties were occasionally exposed by Euell in the second half. DOWN
JAMES (for Roninson ht) - His notorious lapses were nowhere to be seen, as he stood around for long periods watching the action at the other end and then came up with a sharp fingertip save from Reid. UP
CARRICK (for Lampard 67) - Realised he only had 25 minutes to make an impression, and threw himself into it with zealous tackling. Also came up with the pass of the match to play in clubmate Lennon on the right. UP
LENNON (for Beckham 67) - His pace and tricks give England a very different option to Beckham on the right but, lively as he was, he is not going to pierce the skipper's armour. DOWN
DOWNING (for Gerrard 77) - Only has a real chance of figuring if injury blights the England camp - this is a World Cup too early for his maturing talent. DOWN
