Gannon: I'll wait for County offer

STOCKPORT boss Jim Gannon wants to ensure County's safety before discussing a new contract.

Gannon, who took over after at Edgeley Park after Christmas, is currently working under a short-term deal which runs until the end of the season.

But County have lost just three of the 15 games for which he has been in charge, including the current run of three straight victories, pushing his case for a lengthier deal.

Gannon said: "When the time is right, I'd like to sit down and discuss my future. Contract negotiations could be quite complex, so for the moment I just want to focus on picking up points in the games which are still coming week in, week out.

Hamstring

"Once we can all breathe a little easier, then I'll start thinking about my future and the future of the football club."

Meanwhile, County are set to be boosted by the return of young defender Michael Raynes in time for Saturday's derby with Bury at Edgeley Park.

Raynes has been troubled by a hamstring problem, which has kept him out of first-team action since the end of January.

But he is over that now and could even have been involved at Torquay last Saturday if that game had not been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

"It's coming on great," said Raynes. "Hopefully I'll be in contention for next weekend."

Should Jim Gannon get a full time contract? Have your say.

Says a lot about the bloke, that he's prepared to put his own issues to one side, so that they don't cast a shadow over the main criteria, which is securing football league status for Stockport County.

When we confirm our safety...(& i never thought i'd be saying that this season !!), i hope the board make JG an offer he can't refuse.
He's earned the right to a good deal, the fans want him rewarded for giving us back some of our pride.

Long may you reign Jim.

Let's face it, he's done a great job in breathing new life into what looked like a terminally ill season.
I've nothing but respect for what he's done so far. If we win against Bury I think he must be given at least a year's deal - but it may be that he's not actually done what some at the club thought he'd do. Expect the unexpected.

His record over 16 games if projected over a season would have us right in the promotion scrap instead of down at the wrong end of the table and if he had the reins from the beginning of the campaign, who knows what he could have done? Only one way to find out, give him some security and authority with a long term deal. I hope they do, I doubt we could do much better. Jim'll fix it!
