FC UNITED fans last night rejected an idea that the club should change their first-team shirts next season.
In the first flexing of their democratic muscles, fans at the club's general meeting in Manchester voted overwhelmingly against the fledgling club changing the home and away strips in alternate years - although the full result will not be known until all votes are counted later today.
But the club's 3,692 members were expected to back the club's recommendation that the shirts be kept free of sponsorship, that season ticket prices be slightly reduced for adults and slashed for kids, and to freeze the turnstile prices.
The first nine months of the club's life got a verdict of "so far, so good" verdict from general manager Andy Walsh, and it was reported that the club had made a profit of '67,000 to the end of February, although overheads mean that will probably be eroded by the end of the season to around '29,000.
Community
The club say they are in a "healthy financial position" despite the decision not to have a shirt sponsor, the lack of pitchside advertising and bar takings, and the fact they pay '5,000 a match in rent to landlords Bury.
Walsh and board member Adam Brown outlined plans to begin a reserve and youth teams next season as well as expanding community links.
The wage bill for coaches, medical staff and players has worked out at '3,000 a week over a 40-week season, and the board do not intend to increase that figure next season, even though the club are poised for promotion to the first division of the Moore and Co Construction Solicitors League.
The team play Oldham Town at Boundary Park tonight, and need a maximum of 16 points from their last eight games to clinch promotion in their inaugural season.
Top scorer and influential midfielder Simon Carden is expected to return to the side tonight after missing Saturday's 8-1 thrashing of Leek CSOB due to his baby being ill.
That is likely to be the only change, with Phil Melville keeping his place as goalkeeper in place of Barry George and 40-year-old assistant manager Phil Power set to keep his place up front.
Do you agree with the decision not to change the kit? Have your say.

Keep up at the back.
0 out of 10 for accuracy.
'voted overwhelmingly against the fledgling club changing the home and away strips in alternate years' - WRONG, the vote was about changing the strip for next year.
the club had made a profit of ??67,000 to the end of February, although overheads mean that will probably be eroded by the end of the season to around ??29,000 - WRONG, eroded by the end of the financial year - a significant difference.
OLDHAM TOWN v. FC UNITED. We may only need sixteen points, but thats still five wins and a draw from eight. With our nearest rivals playing out of their skins to get promoted there is little room for complacency. I am sure Oldham Town will be looking to do a Flixton and peg us back. We still have to play Norton who beat us at home. We have to play Chadderton home and away and they are an unknown quantity who I believe have brought in player from Salford. Cheadle got a draw at our George Best tribute game. Great Harwood Town got a draw at Stanley. Padiham are also promotion hopefuls and I wouldnt right off New Mills. The Saturday 8-1 will mean nothing if we cant turn these over. Time to step up to the challenge me thinks. DIRECTIONS: I suppose most Reds know where the Latics play, but for those who have never been before this is one route. Exit the M62 at Jct 20 taking the A627 for Oldham. Take the second slip road off the A627 and follow the signs for Royton. You will come to a roundabout. Take the A663 exit road for Royton (Broadway) and you will see Boundary Park is on your right. Viva la revolution, come on FC.
What exactly was the 40k overhead costs? I think that should be explained. Did Andy and Adam just take that off the top to buy a new Mercedes for themselves to keep up their image as team owners? In my opinion this is sounding like they are running a business? Could it be? Sounds like the C word. (sssshhhh C-a-p-i-t-a-l-i-s-m) I cannot WAIT until they have to take out a loan!!! I hope all the homers boycott the club then because of INTEREST PAYMENTS . . . .OH NO!!! AHHHHHHHHH
At least I listen, Methodist Hall ??" Quite right and you might also have mentioned that the 100k originally pledged by fans has not been spent and that it is in the FC United Ltd bank account gaining interest for the club. Even the bank manager turned up to confirm that! Nice little nest egg towards facilities development. We will also now be able to apply for grant funding as we voted for a change to the IPS rules that make us fully compliant with FA best practice. Another smart move. Stad de FC on the way me thinks.
So when exactly is the board elected? I read through the votes and didn't see that on the Ballot? It does not seem like the "members" voted on anything of any substance whatsoever. Do the fans not get to decide who runs the team? Do the fans not get to decide who is on the board of directors? The only ballot choice is about the gear FC wears for next year? How pathetic. How pathetic that 700 and change people showed up for this pointless, meaningless, and worthless meeting. What will be on agenda for the next vote? Should pasties sold on the grounds be a) 3 pounds b)2 pounds. Honestly this club is becoming more of a joke as it goes on. And if you are laughing you probably do not realize the joke is on you.
Tommy,
erm, calm down (no i'm not scouse) take a deep breath.... and relax... its just a game, and find yourself a noble cause that will do the world some good. You are abit of an extremist and in this day and age thats not healthy.
"What exactly was the 40k overhead costs?"
why do you care?
"Did Andy and Adam just take that off the top to buy a new Mercedes for themselves to keep up their image as team owners?"
ARF!!
I'm actually quite flattered that you choose to spend so much of your valuable time posting long and, let's face it, frankly embarrassingly boring, posts on here.
What's your motivation? Genuine question. Broad church and that.
glad we are not going down the road of creating a money making monster .nowt wrong with the shirts we have got .
So much for so called democracy. We vote almost 2 to 1 against changing the shirts in alternate years and the Chief Executive and Bored refuse to build that decision into Club Policy. It appears they pick and choose which decisions to adopt. Well I hate to say we told you so but we told you so. With the ongoing costs of the Club reported at around 3k and the cost of hiring Gigg Lane at 5k even Free Tread the bean counter could tell you that 69k is nowhere near the true operational profit. Money is being transferred into a "special" fund but the Chief Exec wasn't very forthcoming on this was he. Perhaps he's preparing to write another huge cheque to the BMA. Perhaps 401 gbp this time. The meeting was as big a travsety of democracy as I thought it would be.
Oh and why wasn't the agenda item of FC in the Community discussed. Too expensive an iniatitive or too distracting for the financial "wizards" speculating to accumulate?
Schizo Malcoom, aka the other free red. Its all right bleating on here about this and that, but I dont remember you saying any of this at the meeting. But then again its not about what you really think is it now. Come on Malc, for once in your miserable life be honest. There is no Special Fund, the books will be audited and the number crunch released to members in October. Lets face it, you only post to ridicule. You know as well as I do there is nothing untoward at FC, but like the spineless coward I have always said you are you didnt have the bottle to speak your peace where it counted. Pathetic!
I thought you were there? Did you not hear that we had to be out by 10? I thought the board did very well to fit as much in as they did. Usually when you get 750 people in one place you have 800 different opinions and a fair number of people who just like the sound of their own voice. Actually I might just have described you there.
Botox in Norway. I live in Tampa and have had the Glazers own "my team" for the past 11 years. They have made nothing but improvements to the team. The old stadium was awful and Baltimore tried to steal our team with a sweetheart stadium and deal for Glazer. Big Daddy Malcolm got the stadium built. It is the best football stadium in the NFL! I love going there and can't wait till MUFC comes over for a pre-season friendly. What's my motivation? You have been fed lies by your media about the Glazer family, the MUFC deal, the Buccaneers and pretty much everything so a couple of yahoos could fund their own ambitious football dreams on the back of fear and hatred. I'm here to give you the other side of the argument, because you only hear (and listen to) one side. If I can convince one of you NOT to attend FC games, it is worth it.
tampa fraud says it all. He aims to 'convince' (I think he means persuade) people not to attend FC games. What is it to him how we spend our money? We dont care how wonderful the glazers allegedly are, or how hurtfully misrepresented they have been in the British and US media.
As for the so called success of the Tampa Bay Bucs, I go along with the German saying 'ein mal ist kein mal' or once doesn't count. For instance, Blackburn Rovers have won the premiership but no one outside central Lancashire would seriously argue that they are a top PL team.
I dont care about the glazers or their debt inflicting 'strategy' and I certainly dont care for them. As for FCUoM, I think it is a wonderfully romantic adventure that has my wholehearted support. I dont think anyone involved is lining their own pockets, and if they do, they would soon be caught out by the independent auditors.
As ever I expect tampa fraud to launch more puerile spittle soaked invective centred around name calling. But like the pub or party bore, he fails to appreciate the longer he stays the more people will turn their backs and politely ignore him. Maybe the simplest would be to move to another forum without telling him, or divert his foaming spittle into his own forum.
Johnjohn'sjohn - Despite your ignorance of American grammar and word usage, no fans of an NFL team measure their team "successful" only if they win the Super Bowl. That would be ridiculous. But I can see how you and others like you would view it. You are not real fans. Oh you WERE there in 1999 when all the glories and laud befell MUFC, but in 2006, out of Europe, SECOND place in the standings behind Chelski and you run away like the glory hunters you are. Before the Glazers the Bucs were ATROCIOUS!!! A home game in Tampa v. Green Bay consisted of 20% Bucs fans and 80% Packer fans on holiday or ex-cheese State people who live here. I LIVE IN TAMPA, I KNOW THE DIFFERENCE. The stadium is FULL EVERY GAME with a sea of RED since Glazer. The is competitive IF NOT GREAT every year! They have a chance to win every game they play!! What better OWNERS TO HAVE??? They provide the cash for players and NEVER TAKE ANY CREDIT FOR SUCCESS. They never do interviews and they make themselves public figures!! Exactly what I like about them. Don't see them and I don't care to. You don't realize what a blessing that is.
Tie fettishist I think Blackburn are a top team. Or are you defining top based on how many pennies are in the bank. I prefer to look at the performances of a club which is why FC are dire and Blackburn ae a top club. Do you get along to watch Gillingham play (your local club ) or do you prefer to support a no name club miles away from you. Get your Cheatski shirt on.
there you go again tampa fraud, full of spittle, and ill-tempered personal abuse (as usually hopelessly misdirected). I dont care about american football, who wins, who loses. However, it is a 'socialist' sport with wage caps, draft picks to even up teams, no competing teams (AFC or NFC) close together. Huge payments to owners from the league each season, made for TV - time outs for ads etc etc. However business history is littered with successful European companies that have come a cropper trying to expand in the US, and similarly US companies in Europe. Even as I write, it would seem likely that the alleged marketing genius that is one of the glazer boys, has yet to find a shirt sponsor. Enjoy your Bucs, glorify what the Glazers have done there, but the two continents , the two economic systems and the two sports are not comparable. Just leave us in peace. If you had half the brainpower you think you do, you would have got the message by now. If you continue, that will just go to show you are too thick for your own good
Exactly Johnjohn - You made up your mind about Glazer before hearing anything about him. The media jumped all over the Glazer family as the "evil Americans" before knowing anything about him. Seen an interview with a real Buccaneer fan recently in press or on the tele? Just spin about mobile homes. This just in: We live in Florida. 10 years ago 30% of the state was mobile homes. A large percentage which were old people who live in them during the winter, who came down to enjoy the sunshine. They were not complaining! You don't know anything about Glazer because you believe the spin that you get from FC. How naive you must be. Of course they tell you not to go to MUFC matches! They want your cash themselves. Red Football forever!!! (Bucs + United!!!)
there you go again tampa fraud - telling me what is and was in my mind!!! You do not know anything about me, about what work I do, what education I have, what views and other affiliations I have, and least of all, what kind of clothes I wear. All you say is your own warped imaginings. Yep you are simply too thick for your own good. Pity your mam wasnt overprotective and let you go out in the traffic on your own. Too thick to get the message sums you up exactly.
bucs + United!!! bucs + pounds sterling more like. Thats all red football are interested in.
