Bury 1 Oxford 1

BURY moved up two places in League Two after a battling draw at home to fellow strugglers Oxford.

But it could have been much better for Chris Casper's team, who took a 67th-minute lead from the penalty spot.

Colin Marrison was brought down by Oxford defender Chris Wilmott, and full-back Tom Kennedy coolly slotted home from the spot. But four minutes later, some sloppy defending saw the visitors draw level. Striker Tim Sills flicked on a throw in and Andy Burgess fired into the top corner.

Dave Challinor headed wide Bury's only chance of a dire first half.

Midfielder David Flitcroft fired high and wide in the 56th minute after a clever lay-off from Tom Youngs, before the striker himself fired over from the edge of the area seven minutes later.

Kennedy then scored from the spot but then Oxford levelled and a frantic finish ensued. Jon Daly fired across the face of goal with a left-foot shot in the 80th minute and then Marrison missed a similar chance.

But Bury were thankful for a point as Kasper Schmeichel, watched by his father Peter in the stands, produced two smart stops late on to deny Oxford all the points.

not good enough. prepare yourselves for conference football later this year. the facts speak for themselves, we have played 15 games in 2006 and, if you discount opposition own goals and penalties, we have only scored 6 goals from open play. We have only managed to beat Torquay (just about) from games against teams around us and frittered away our 3 games in hand in lifeless draw against rushden and last night and losing to stockport two weeks ago. We were not able to hold the lead last night after we had been gifted a goal (we werent going to score any other way) and oxford made it look so easy to score against us i wondered why they spent the other 87 minutes time wasting and feigning injury when they could quite clearly have taken all 3 points. i am sure jon daly will do some kind of job for us but surely we must be able to find something better than youngs and marrison, who i think have only scored one goal between them in numerous games. One other point, we have only scored more than one goal in one game this year. A tip to any opposition, score once against us and you will not lose. second tip, play 3 or 4 up front as you will have very little to defend against. one more thing, reputations do preceed you re flitcroft's booking. we had stamping on ankles, time wasting and a multitude of persistent foul play all of which went unpunished by yet another apology of a referee.

Was this FC United of Bury or just plain Bury? They played like the former pub team and should have gotten the 3 points if it was not for their play at the end.
