Blackpool Mech 2 FC United 4

MANAGER Karl Marginson hailed both his come-back kings and the club's amazing travelling support as the Red rebels restored their 14-point lead in the Moore and Co Solicitors League second division by dismantling Blackpool Mechanics.

A staggering 4,000 FC United fans made the trip to Blackpool's Bloomfield Road ground, where a league record crowd of 4,300 saw Marginson's men overturn an interval deficit to take another step towards the title with a thrilling 4-2 win.

Said Marginson: "All credit to the boys for battling back and, as for our support, it just gets better and better. It makes you wonder just how big our fan-base can get."

Blackpool rocked FC United when they grabbed a 39th minute lead, but the visitors responded with a penalty equaliser from Rory Patterson before skipper Dave Chadwick blasted them in front.

Chadwick then turned villain as his weak header allowed the hosts to draw level, but the rebels quickly regained the lead through William Ahern before Patterson's second spot-kick wrapped up victory.

Where do FC United need to strengthen the side to prepare for promotion? Have your say.

What a game. What an atmosphere. Not seen anything like that here for a long, long time. Pity we couldn't take the points.

It was without doubt a cracking day at Blackpool on Saturday and a good result on our first away trip into Europe. Simms and Aherne (his goal the icing on the cake for another impressive performance) were the pick off the players dominating in midfield and the introduction of the POWAAHHHHHHHH really made a difference in the second half and to cop it all we scored twice from the penalty spot. If anybody knows who it was then please let us all know. Even the crowd did n??TMt know who he was ??" the man with no name was back larging it for us all. The two goals from the Mechanics were very good. Howard and Torpey were always a threat from the flanks with Josh Howard showing that movement is a only one of the weapons in his impressive armoury. Chadwick was a rock with a well taken goal that any centre forward would have been proud of. Blackpool Mechanics were magnificent in staging this game and deserve the financial reward that the visit of FC brought to them. They are a fantastic club and I hope they go on a run and sneak promotion. If any Club deserve that then they do. If we are to strengthen then we have already made moves in that direction with the introduction of a reserve and youth teams. The three lads who played in the friendly were particularly impressive. There will be plenty of players as free agents during the summer straining at the leash to join the FC revolution. One thing is for sure though if any of the current players leave the Club for pastures new they will ALWAYS be remembered by the fans as being part of this revolution in this inaugural season. I have never seen a group of lads who are so proud to pull on the shirt and give 100% for this team every minute of every game. Not all of them play every week but none of them throw the dummy out of the pram if they do not get a game. It has been a long campaign from that hot summer day at Leigh RMI during the summer and we as a Club, and I include the wonderful supporters, in that are now reaching the final straight and a strong prospect of First Division football next season. Everybody should be proud of what FC United has achieved. Malcolm you can not unhype the hype on this one even though you have been since 16th December because it was real and genuine and 4300 FC fans were there to witness our move towards promotion. Remember I??TMm getting closer Malcolm with the Malcolm detector sighted directly upon you. Lat time I checked it hovering over Royton but I may have to fine tune it a bit as my investigations continue. It is nearly your time. Oh FC United, oh FC United, oh FC United, oh FC United, oh FC United, oh FC United, oh FC United, oh FC United, oh FC United, oh FC United, oh FC United, oh FC United???????????????????????????..

Another great win on the road. Thanks to everyone at Blackpool Mech's and Blackpool FC for looking after us and being such great hosts.

Promotion is nearly in sight now. With no cup competitions to distract us we should be able to focus and get the points we need.

Oh and stay off the pitch

It wasn't that too an exciting of a contest. I did appreciate that the Blackpool players did an excellent job on the tuneup of my auto during the break. Watching them work was like a pit stop in an F1 race!

And how do we know 3,000 of those fans were not Blackpool mechanics fans? The free oil changes they introduced this season has increased their fanbase substantially.

Aha, somone else agrees with my love of the Mechanics of Blackpool! Good workers those boys! Even cleaned my windshield Dash . . .

Eric, you still don't get it do you, no one has a problem with anyone forming some minor league football club in the Northwest Counties league. No one has a problem with anyone who likes that level of football and the intimate contact it allows with the semi-pro players. I however have a problem with forming a team based on ripped-off colours and name of another club. Fueling hatred and lies about the said club and funneling the cash to the new "club" which claims to want an identity of its own, when it's identity is clearly stolen and plagarised. And for the team to be run by a disgruntled failed politician whose jealousy created this whole ugly step-child of a team. Oh who wants to be the "General Manager/Don't call me an Executive?" Who else but the benevolent benefactor, who apparently didn't have a real job before this "gig" fell into his lap. So line up dups of Manchester, get your scarfs and replica kits! Daddy needs a new pair of Nikes!

Saturdays game against the sea-siders proved you can still rely on Blackpool to provide the Greatest show on earth. I was simply the best away game yet. The North and Matthews stands were a sea of red and white with flags, flailing scales and no small number of beach balls being volleyed around. The noise was incredible, with another full 90 minutes of songs and cheering. When the game started we dominated play in the first quarter at the end of which we had a goal disallowed. Blackpool picked up the pace after that which led to their opening goal, headed home by their Mike Braebaum. But I still think we were unfortunate to going in at half time 1-0 down. The substitution of Simon Band for Phil Power in the second half made all the difference up front. Phil battled for all he was worth and didnt give up on even a half chance. When Booth brought Simms down in the box and we were awarded the first pen, I just knew if we scored from the spot we had to be favourites to win. The nameless one didnt disappoint - and did he enjoy it! He near burst with pride!! Chaddys left foot shot, which gave us the first lead, was a cracker. It was just a pity a defensive slip up by him let the Mechs back in, when their Ford found himself in the right place at the right time. Still, it only lasted a minute or so thanks to our Ahern making it 2-3. I think the Mechs had a good shout for a pen when their Ford was brought down ten minutes before time, but the ref wasnt havin it. Our extra time pen just rounded the game off nicely. Great come back for the man with no name with two well taken pens. Nice touch by the Mechs at the end of the match when the players came across to the FC fans, and thanked us for our support. They even gave out sticks of rock to the kids (including the big kids). I dont suppose we will be playing them in the league next season unless this new step four league takes a three or four clubs from the step five NWCFL Div.1. Who knows, we could get drawn against them in a League Challenge cup game. Failing that, I think we should ask the Board to arrange a post season friendly. But whatever happens, I will always have fond memories and respect for the club we love to hate most. Viva la revolution, come on FC.

Eric the Unhinged you are such a wit Oscar Wilde must be smiling down on high at you. I see that FC plan to be in the Unibond within a couple of years. I can't see them getting any further than NWCL division One but as long as the suckers sorry punters keep going through the gate my investent is safe.

A few days ago I read one of the best posts to have appeared on this site since its inception. It was from George of Swinton, who imagined a the reverse scenario whereby somebody in Manchester sees an item on the US TV news about a breakaway Tampa Bay Bucs club. He rightly said that this would exercise our curiosity for a minute, maybe two, and then we'd turn our attention to the Weather Report. Again, quite rightly, he says that no sane person would be sending posts for nine months, or be threatening to come over for the AGM. Now, Tommy, in simple, straightforward language, why in heaven's name is the FC issue so important to you? Can't you see that it's absolutely none, repeat none of your business?

Report This Reply

Malcolm still unhyping the hype since 16th December (I am getting closer with my investigation and closing in on you) and answering questions I have not asked. The Unibond and beyond is a realistic possibility for FC United so do not kid yourself or cast doubt on our potential or aspiration. Tommy similarly you go off on some sort of tirade on topics not related to my recent postings on this board. Just another excuse to speak. Well speak when spoken to. End of. Ripped off colours? We went through that argument months ago. Remember the Urawa Red Diamonds discussion on their kit? I believe that I asked the question of ??oepassing off??? to your fake pal from (location to be confirmed and it certainly is not Tampa) and he could not give an answer back then. Repetition on both your parts. I do not see the need for you to get personal in respect of Andy Walsh either. As your argument weakens you begin to clutch at straws. Two people but the psyche is one and the unhyping the hype carries on? Procatalepsis. It just does not work with us. End of. By the way Free Red nice piece summing up a great day. I didn't even bother to respond to George in Swineton about his "minor league" Buccaneer theory because it was such a poor analogy. First of all, if someone started a minor-league Bucs team, no one here would care. And no descent Bucs fan would go to any games because the product would be so poor. Those here that want minor-league type gridiron football go to high school football games. (16-18 yr olds) Most Friday nights a good HS team matchup will draw 6500-7000 people.

Also, somehow the information about the Buccaneers and the Glazers somehow gets lost in the translation from American to English apparently, because some of the things I have read in chatboards like on the MUST website are humourous at best. One poster listed 60 (that is SIXTY ) items and actions about the Glazers, issues with Raymond James Stadium, the Buccaneers and related issues. Every damn one of them was either schewed or blalantly untrue. I live in Tampa. I know the Glazers as sports owners. I know how the stadium issue went down. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A TRUE STORY ABOUT THE TAMPA STADIUM AND THE GLAZERS EVER IN PRINT IN A MANCHESTER PAPER. I find it perplexing and disturbing that in an age of the internet, a group of people (FC Fans) can be so misinformed, misled and completely ignorant. But then again your stupidest friend is usually the one who is the happiest in their misery.

Eric the Red, Bradford - The non fan Tommy aka Dash Walny (Andy Walsh anagram) is so pig headed he is unable to get his head round the fact that the Glazers are absolutley hated over here, and will never be seen as anything other than freeloaders. Thats what grates him, he finds it a blow to his over inflated ego that not everything American works in other cultures. The Glazers will be gone, and when they are, so will the likes of Tommy. Anyway, this is the FC Unired site and our club is in the black. Oh, FC united, the only team in Manchester thats not in debt. Cant wait for the return Holker game at Alty this Sat. Do you think Adie Orr will be back in?Viva la Revolution, come on FC.

Tommy, err.. i was actually posting it in reference to Malcolm! why the confusion? however, i see your point about Bucs fans etc because your are right, I don't know the Tampa people and how they would respond. If people don't want to watch minor league Gridiron then good.. thats upto them... if people want to watch high school games... then good I'm impressed that 6500-7000 people watch it, you see everybody is different. I Personally find gridiron a poor rip off of the great game of Rugby and we don't wear helmets and pads like big girls, but am i going to get bitter about it? post hundreds and hundreds of letters to gridiron Monthly or whatever its called ? don't think so... I think I will just get on with my life thanks! and concerning Glazer all I care and know is that he is only interested in money and we don't need him for the club to flourish. where was he in 68 and 99? not at Wembley, or Barcelona. I want a someone at the top who only have Utds interest at heart not how much they are going to personally make out of it.

Yes, I imagine those stories in the Florida press about glazer letting his house fall apart, are also planted by andy walsh.

George, finally someone here with a little sense. I never said anything poor about Rugby. I can catch the NZ and South African games on Setanta here in the states. Gridirion and Rugby definitely have a lot of similarities that fans of either would enjoy. You can disagree of course, but tackling in Rugby is more a "pulling down" motion and less "shoulder to the face and sternum" than its Gridiron cousin. The forward pass certainly is the biggest difference I think. And play calling in gridiron is more liken to a type of stragetic wargame between the defense and offense that American fans enjoy (Americans like war? No way?) that you just don't find in Rugby where more is done on the run.

Anyways back to FC, I think because of George in Swinton my dislike of FC United has been reduced by around 3.7%.
If only there were 10 more FC fans like him. Thanks George.

Free Red I do hope Adie gets a start although the POWAAHHHHHHH Patterson pairing looked dangerous. Si carden should be somewhere near fit which leaves a bit of contention in idfield and I reckon Joz could be in the squad.

Eric the Pinko, Bradford - The non fan Tommy aka Dash Walny (Say Whandl anagram) cant see to we are ignorant regarding the Glazers. The Glazers are not going anywhere, have a firm hold of the finances and the club and Tommy isn't going anywhere. Anyway, this is the FC Unired (Why the white shorts then?) site and our club is in the black. (Most people dress that way for Funerals, which I put at two seasons away)

Oh, FC united, the only team in Manchester (technically Bury) thats not in debt. (Who cares?)

Cant wait for the return Holker (Is this really a team?) game at Alty this Sat.

Do you Rory Patterson has found his zit cream? Viva la Revolution, (everything that sucks claims to be revolutionary just to gain followers) . . . ..

Come on FC, I've got an IQ of 43 .. . . .
At this moment, you mean everything
I'm not very good at Math . . . ..
So we let Andy direct our wrath . .

Why anyone the other side of the atlantic could have any views to like or dislike FC United is risible.

Eric the Unhinged there you go again summoning up powers that either not within your gift or a fantasy. You cling on to Fickle Red as some form of surrogate father. You will never get close to me because like the famous ex Polish footballer Dash I am far too quick for you and thats without thinking. FC are guilty of passing off. If you can come up with a rational explanation of why they choose red as a kit and red and black as a combination that doesn't involve the REAL United you may have an argument. Go and take your barrack room tactics to the chippy or taxi firm you work for. As for Glazer being in it for the money how does that differentiate him from any other club owner? From shopkeepers to multi millionaire business men. Same motive. Ego and money. Get real.
