Oldham plan £80m stadium

OLDHAM Athletic have unveiled ambitious plans for a '80m stadium - just over two years after nearly going bust.

The three America based millionaires who rescued the club have revealed their vision for the future.

They plan to redevelop Boundary Park as a 16,000 all-seater stadium, to be called the Oldham Arena, for the town's football and rugby league clubs.

Plans for the 21-acre site also include a 130-room hotel, offices and luxury flats.

Managing director Simon Corney said the club's century-old ground was falling apart and needed hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of repairs.

He said: "We want to create something for the town."

A planning application will be made shortly and it is hoped work will start at the end of next season.
