FC United: Rory plans to keep feet on ground

RORY Patterson will play his last FC United match for over a month when the Rebels take on Darwen at Gigg Lane tomorrow (3pm).

The feisty Derry lad picked up a 35-day suspension for his part in a fracas that marred the recent cup defeat at Colne.

But manager Karl Marginson will not try to dampen the fires, merely to channel them in the right direction - and that includes banning Patterson from jumping into the crowd to celebrate his goals!

The 21-year-old former Rochdale striker picked up a yellow card for a prodigious leap into the Manchester Road End after smashing in the winner in Monday's 2-1 victory over second-placed Winsford at Gigg Lane.

"There was a lot of pent-up frustration in that celebration because Rory hasn't started as often as he would have liked," said Marginson.

"He was lucky he didn't hurt himself because there is quite a drop into that end of the ground."

The clash with fifth-placed Darwen, who were beaten 2-1 away earlier in the season, will also see defenders Tony Cullen and Gareth Orme back in contention after injury.

And Patterson is likely to be frustrated again with Marginson keen to see how new signing Leon Mike and Adie Orr gel up front.

Former Manchester City and Aberdeen striker Mike started against Winsford and his bulk had the MRE fans glad that it was not him that hurled himself into their midst in celebration.

But Marginson was more than happy with his debut, saying: "To be fair to Leon he hasn't played for quite a while and he has always been a bit chunky - his stamina needs working at. But people also saw how quick he is over a short distance, how good his touch is and how aware he is.

"He and Adie complement each other quite well because Leon brings other players into the game well and Adie plays on the shoulder of the last defender a bit more."

The first six months of the Rebels' existence has, obviously, been one big flurry of transfer activity with Mike and former Maine Road player-manager Chris Simms the latest additions just before Christmas.

Marginson says the activity will calm down now as he wants to allow his team time to settle, especially his defence. Winsford targeted the United defence as a weak point in Saturday's game and they have leaked 20 goals in 19 games, despite banging in 67 at the other end.

Off the field, the Rebels continue to confound their critics. Saturday's record 4,328 crowd made the Moore and Co Solicitors league second division side the 88th best-supported side in the country, ahead of six Football League clubs, including hosts Bury, Rochdale and Macclesfield.

The fracas that brought about Rorys suspension was little more than a tad of handbags. I thought the referee was way too fussy the Colne fans I spoke too agreed with me. The game was stop start from beginning to end so both teams were getting fustrated. Rory is a popular player who will be missed. Still, it will be interesting to see how Leon Mike and Adie Orr pair up front. I am pleased to see Cullen and Orme back in contention. Karl is right about our defence being a bit shaky. I dont think we can afford the luxury of conceding so many goals when we eventually move up to Div.1. Quite by chance I spoke to the coach of Curzon-Ashton a few months ago. They were hoping that a couple of extra promotion places were going to be made available to the step 4 Unibond Div 1, but last thing said was it will be a one up one down this season and probably next. This Chris Simms sounds ok. He has held the roll of Player-Manager at Maine Road and has previously played for Hyde United and Runcorn scoring 130 goals in 500 games. The experience he brings to our squad can only be seen as a plus. Other NWCFL Div.2. fixtures being played tomorrow. Ashton Town v. Padiham. Blackpool Mech. v. New Mills. Flixton v. Cheadle. Great Harwood Town v. Castleton Gabs. Holker v. Chadderton. Nelson v. Daisy Hill. Oldham Town v. Winsford. Viva la revolution, come on FC.

Patterson gets a five week ban and Mike is so big he has the FC supporters relieved that he didn't throw himself in the crowd. Now where does the pub football moniker come from I wonder. Do the team get the rounds in?

Talk about spin. Free Traitor is on his AA sponsored soap box again among other sensational news repeating the fixtures. What an original chappie he is. Beep beep.

Right that's me done for the day. Home time. I'll be at El Stadio Giggo tomorrow to watch my team continue the challenge to win this league..Looking forward to Rory bagging a couple before his enforced rest and either Jozzer or Leon pairing up with Adie. Chaddy is still out with an injured toe so it looks like Billy Mac and Browny at the centre of defence. Free Red do you think Margy has targeted Simms with a view to running a reserve team next season? He'd be the ideal candidate along with Daz Lyons coaching to bring some youngsters on. I see that Malcolm is still going on and on and on and on.......

I think so Eric. We certainly need one to keep our reserves match fit and the first team on their toes. By the way, you might have heard, we have just signed another keeper as well. Matt Higgins comes to us from America and has previous English league experience with Mac. He is only 21 years old so one to watch. Its not difficult to tell who the football fans are on here is it. Malcs lost his way again and Tommy thinks a yellow card gets a player sent off. What a pair of know nowts. They should stick to gridiron.

Well, well, well. We are to play Irish League side Galway United on February 12th. The Irish League season starts in March and the supporters trust has financed a pre-season trip to England. The club has asked if we would play them in a behind closed doors practice match. So why the closed doors? Im sure our guests would love a tad of atmosphere. I couldnt care less if we win, lose or draw, after all, its only a friendly. I would love to see FC play any international game. Surly there must be some way of opening the turnstiles. Dont get me wrong, if it remains a closed game then so be it. But I will see it as a lost opportunity. We could have had this as Paddys day come early. We really could have made something of this. Come on board, gizza lookin.

Okay "owners" of this team. I have a challenge for you. I'll give you two days. Thursday being the deadline for this question. If you do "own" the team as you profess, it should be a simple task. What is Andy Walsh's salary and compensation for being chairman of the board? Eric the Red, you can't find out. Free Red, you can't find out either. (Fill in the Blank) Red, you have your challenge. If you "own" the team you should be able to find out. But you can't and won't because simply you don't.

Which is exactly my point all along. The "fan" ownership is merely hyperbole to convince you to show up for matches. You don't own the team and who is really "in charge" is in rather plain language in the club's constitution.

Tick tock. . . .tick tock my red faced friends, can you find out? I know what it is through my all reaching powers, but you can't find out because "they" don't want you to know.

Is this a trick question ?
Surely no one would be stupid enough to ask it when the FCUM Chief Executive's position has already been openly advertised in the MEN at B#25,000 p.a ?
Do we have to name the firm that have been appointed to audit the FC accounts as well for a bonus ?

Report This Reply

Joe Gibbs any properly consituted organization would of course be entirely transparent in naming its auditors. Then again FCUM have anything but transparent in revealing what happens in the financial netherworld of Walsh and Co (otherwise known as the Board). Still FCUM fans don't need to know about the financial shenanigans cos they are only there for the beautiful game.

Joe Gibbs - (aka lowest offensive production of any team ever winning a playoff game) I didn't ask for the advertised price, I ask what Andy has taken from the coffers this season to be Chairman of the Board. Hint: Way more than you would expect.

We will be having a half season general meeting in a few weeks at the Apollo theatre in Manchester. I would suggest that any member table their questions to the elected board at that meeting. I will. Non-members who are against FC United can mind their own business. Take out membership or, well, FIFO comes to mind. As for the other question, the FCUM Chief Executive's position was advertised in the MEN. Tommy a.k.a other names should try buying a newspaper if thay really that interested. I'm sure a arrangement could be made with a news agent in Manchester to obtain copy's. It would be a good idea as it is clear they have nothing better to read.

Tommy I would go for Walsh awarding himself around B#40,000 or something like $80,000. For that kind of money do you think thats good value? Nice of Free Red to suggest that information is only available from press releases. Isn't it somewhat quaint that he feels he is so entitled to know the ins and out sof Glazers financial affairs but prefers to operate as a secret society when its comes to his only mini empire. I have even heard they have an initiation ceremony. Any news on that?

Beep! Beep! The BSometer is really going some now! But I think we've got a serious point to clear up. Do you know what it sounds like to me? I think Malcolm and Tommy are really dismayed at the progress of FC United and are doing their utmost to discredit the club. But they are careful to do this in a very oblique way, with a little hint here and a nudge there. OK!! Let's put all the kidding, all the facetiousness, all the irony to one side. You have allegations to make. Make them! Don't beat about the bush. If you can add one iota of concrete evidence, let's hear it. If you can't, and I'm sure you can't, I suggest you refrain from your cowardly campaign of innuendo.

Free Red - If there is a skunk in your face, do you pretend it is not there? Read the club constitution please. The Board has all the power with the club. Not the fans.
The advertised "Chief Executive" reports to the "Board" and can be removed or replaced at whim. The "Shares" you have purchased entitle you to no profits, no return on investment, and are nothing but a worthless piece of paper (that you cannot transfer or resell). Oh but you get to make votes once a year on items that pretty much have already been decided for you. How fun!

The Green Bay Packers (also "community" owned by the city of Green Bay) ran a scheme a few years back selling additional "shares" of the their club. Same thing: Shares basically an expensive souvenir to frame on your wall. Get you no return on your investment. If buying them makes you feel good about yourself, more power to your stupidity. Andy Walsh is sort of my hero really. The way I see it, he basically has convinced all the "shareholders" to hand him over cash which he never has to repay. Way smarter than Glazer who has to pay his loans back with interest!

thomas seeing you are so well informed why do you not publicley air your accusitions, then you will be either proved right or sued for deformation of character.

Malcolm/Tommy what business is it of yours? Are you members of FCUoM? I don't think either of you are. So, being polite, mind your own business. The fans of this club are not answerable to you or your stupid tasks and questions. Right now that's out of the way who's up for Accy on Sunday? With Rory out could we see a Mike/Orr frontline? I've been pretty impressed with Chris Simms in the glimpses I've seen and Steve Spencer has made the central midfield role his own of late. He's an intelligent footballer does all the simple things well, tidies up and uses the ball well. I'm looking forward to seeing Josh Howard as he's been on fire after a slow start against Colne. He certainly showed his pedigree last week with a stunner that if it had been shown on national TV would have had people talking for years. Bad news about Simon Carden though we'll miss the goal machine this week.

The laughable allegations and continued bitterness against FC United make me chuckle heartily. We seem to have been doing a lot of that in the last 6 months. A football club is formed, the fans love it and the team does well. What a shame for some tortured souls that other people are enjoying themselves while they stomp around in ever decreasing circles looking for new falsehoods to fling. Keep posting the bile and keep on adding to our enjoyment. Please!

Eric the red - Will I be at Accrington on Sunday? you can bet your house on it. I had a cracking day out last time and I've no doubt I'll have more of the same this. How do you think Chris Simms will shape up as a reserves coach? We really do need a team in the NWCFL reserves division to support our chances of gaining promotion from the first division next season to step 4. I want to ask Karl about this at our mid-term general meeting. You're right about Josh Howard. He'll be getting a song of his own soon. He razed quite a few eyebrows last Saturday with his 40yard lob. I think we'll miss Carden, but I think we have the strength in depth to cope. I hope Carden is back for the Flixton and Padiham league games. As for racist tampa. I think he should examine the facts. I am not remotely interested in profit. I am happy with one vote. I want Andy Walsh to get the job. I want FC United to create other job opportunities. Come hell or high water Glazer will never get a penny of my money. My wallet = my rules. I will spend my money on what I choose. I object to non-fans or anyone for that matter telling me what I should and shouldn't do with my own money. The only stupid people who post on here pay Glazers debt. The rest aren't even fans

What do FC pub football fans know about the real game? Nada. To quote Sir Alex Ferguson who manages the team you fairweather followers claimed to support "Without question, I have found the owners excellent," ..."They have never failed in their promises and support in what we have done. They have demonstrated this by their commitment to signing Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic." ...and guess what he wasn't referring to Andy Walsh.

Tommy and guess what Walsh and his cronies get to keep the club and the power at others expense and risk forever Sounds like a winning formula to me. What I find hard to understand is how they managed to pull off such an enormous scam. Its got to be up there with Houdini's greatest tricks. No wonder they are holding the half season general meeting at a theatre. Do you think that Walsh will be sawn in half by Adam Brown as part of the show?

Eric no doubt a word you love to use a lot is democracy. When of course it suits you. When it doesn't suit you argue so eloquently "thats it got to do with you" (ie non FCeer's). So when did you ever own United or be a stakeholder in 1 million and 1 other things. Yet that didn't deter you from having an opinion did it. Don't you see the logic of what Tommy has kindly pointed out to you? What "YOUR" new toys constitution means in reality? The democracy in your club is no greater than at United. In fact I would argue that paying customers can and do vote with their feet which influences the Management. Your Board are making very easy money at yoir expense, FC are top of the pub league (is there an FC darts team?) you're happy, they're happy and the 3,000 pawns (or should that be prawns?) are picking up the bill. Absolute bliss. Andy and Adam in the Garden of Bury.

Where are the Attendance Hyperbolists in regards to the number at the Darwen game. There didn't even appear to be 3000 at the GL to me. I guess the 5K versus Darwen hype certainly fell short of its goal. FC United is even too embarrassed to show the attendance figure on their website (so far). Me guesses the figure will be rounded up to the next 1000 just to make it look good. I also see Fergie appears to "Like" the Glazers?? Crazy isn't it. The Glazers pay the cash and let Fergie run the team, exactly opposite of what SU and its offspring predicted. The wheel is coming off the cart!

Does Leon Mike count as two players or has he been signed for the FC Darts Team?
