Rochdale 1 Northampton Town 1

A DRAW was the very least that Rochdale deserved as they ended their losing sequence, but having seen his side control the game for long periods, manager Steve Parkin was disappointed that they had not taken all three points.

"Northampton pinned us back in the last few minutes but in general we have created a lot of chances. We had the sort of opportunities that you would have hoped to have taken but that has been the story for us throughout the Holiday period. Against Wrexham, Carlisle and now Northampton we have given as good as we have got but not really come out with anything. Whilst I am pleased that we have stopped the rot I am disappointed that we have not won a game against a side with definite promotion credentials."

After Matt Gilks had saved a first minute David Hunt free kick, the high flying Cobblers spent virtually all the first half on the back foot but somehow managed to keep their creaking back door closed.

Against the run of play Australia Pedj Bojic, with everyone in the ground waiting for an offside flag that never came, gave Northampton a 48th minute lead but justice was done on 71 minutes as Lady Luck returned to Spotland when Josh Low deflected a Ricky Lambert free kick into his own net to bring to an end Rochdale's five-match losing run.

What a shame that the dale couldn't start 2006 with a win which they deserved agaianst Northampton.
Clive Moyo-Modise had a promising game as sub while Holt was appalling and should have been taken off.Sadly, he hasn't played well for 5/6 weeks and looks to be playing out of position as more of a winger rather than as a bustling centre forward where he has most success. It is difficult to see if he justifies his alleged reputation at the moment. The majority of his recet goals have been penalties.
Alan Goodall continues to improve and always gives 100% and is a great asset to the team.
Someone needs to give Matt Gilks some training though as he has lost his confidence to come off his line for anything which leaves him stranded on too many occassions.
A place in the play off awaits any team that can put a consistent run together and we can beat any of those above us with the exception of Wycombe who look favourites for the title.
The standard of refereeing is shocking, a comment that applies even when we win !Maybe we need some serious sponsorship for the refs to bring the standard up to an acceptable level ? Specsavers would fit the bill...
