FC United 10 Castleton Gabs 2

O COME all ye faithful was the theme of FC United’s 10-2 drubbing of Castleton Gabriels.

Cheered by 3,154 fans at Gigg Lane, the red rebels collected three gift-wrapped points towards their Moore and Co Solicitors League second division title charge with a real demolition of the bottom team.

Simon Carden was the star of the show, scoring five of FC United’s goals - the first after just 30 seconds - and setting up two of the others for Josh Howard and Steve Torpey.

Volley

Josh Mitten netted twice but then blotted his copybook by being sent off along with Castleton’s Jimmy Gilbert after the pair clashed late on.

The pick of FC United’s goals was a sublime lobbed volley by Adie Orr which gave visiting keeper Mark Canning no chance.

But, despite being second-best throughout, Castleton, who prop up the table on minus three points after having four docked, never gave up and at least had the consolation of scoring through Matthew Russell and sub Marcus Smith.

The win takes FC United 11 points clear of second-placed Winsford and leaves them looking odds-on favourites for the championship.

I went to the FC United match V Castleton Gabriels and after watching the Man Utd match V Everton match on the Sunday I came to the conclusion that there's only one team in Manchester playing the United/ Busby style of football and its not MUFC,where's the passion?

Surely "All Come Ye Unfaithful"? You two timers you!

The Man United way? What an insult to Best, Law and Charlton.

Another great game, another great atmosphere. Castleton played their part in the pre-Christmas panto well and deservedly got clapped off the pitch.

Top flight football has lost this level of banter, fun and passion. It's been replced with selfishness and hatred.

I'm having a ball and don't miss my old LMTB one little bit.

Supershow from the lads yet again, we've got a couple of huge fixtures coming up (for example Flixton and Winsford) and we must take a point at least from both of them if we are to go on and secure this league title. Everythings looking bright for us at the moment, attendances are magnificent, we're someway clear at the top and in the next round of the division 2 trophy. Can't wait for the next game.

No experience like FC

Bruce Willis. It certainly was but I shudder to think what the score would have been if it had been FCUM out in Lisbon.

Life long United fan currently working in Sweden, cam back home for ma few days and decided to go and see FCUnited to see what all the fuss was about. Absolutely brilliant. Great entertainment, great atmosphere great crowds. Football as it should be. Back in Sweden now so all I have to watch is the Royal League. Sheesh

What a game. There was nothing unusual about the way the game started or the early goal. Then the goals really started going in. I don't think I was the only one stunned by the pace of it. Ten goals. I've heard about it, sung songs about it, United have done it v. Wolverhampton Wanderers & Anderlecht, City have done it v. Huddersfield, but I've never seen it and never thought I would in my lifetime. With FC United going in at half time 6-1 up, we were wondering if this could be the match. From the second half k.o. we cheered the players on to make 10 a reality. "We want ten, we want ten" was the cry and the players did go for it. I thought the two red cards were a bit petty. A couple of yellows would have been more appropriate. Still, it didn't spoil the game or stop FC getting the magic double figure. Now the old song fits the team if once is seldom. Some would see this as a humiliating defeat for Castleton but that not what I will remember of them. What stood out for me was the great humility their players showed at the end of the game when they came over to the MRE and applauded the home fans. The gesture was reciprocated. Been there, done that. I don't think I'd like to see a team concede 10 goals again. Nine would do nicely. Thanks Castleton Gabriels for being such great sports. Other same day results from Div. 2 of the NWCL. Blackpool Mechanics 2-1 Chadderton. Flixton 5-0 Holker. Leek CSOB 0-0 Darwen. New Mills 3-0 Daisy Hill. Norton United 1-1 Nelson. Oldham Town 0-2 Great Harwood Town. Padiham 2-3 Eccleshall. Winsford 1-1 Ashton Town. Viva la Revolution. Viva la FCUM.

I stopped by the FC game to see what all the commotion was about.

I was very disappointed in the Gabriels team. Most of their team did not look very fit and it was not much of a game. Unlike Malcolm and Tommy, I have actually played football and have been on teams that could beat Castleton definitely. I probably will not go back again as the lack of skill by the players was rather obvious.

True to form Anorak Red has submitted his thoughts for another week. Beep beep. Choo choo.

True to form, the spineless multiple name poster has submitted their blah blah blah for another day.

Report This Reply

P.S. How does someone from Manchester just simply stop by in Bury with a couple of hours to spare and know FC are playing? Why would there be anything unusual about a 'commotion' at BURY football club on a match day? Why would that person not name the team they claim to have played for? How does a new poster know so much about Malcolm and Tommy? What sort of Manc has a nickname like Dash? What sort of surname is Walny period? Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha! It's Christmas so why not pull the other one? It's got bells on dont you know.

Dash Walny - RUBBISH! The Gabs have a young inexperienced team of slender built players. You have never set foot in Bury let alone watched an Fc. United game.

Report This Reply

Dash. Would you please explain as to which players in your opinion were over weight. I went to both Castleton games and I can not recall any. I have also played semi-pro for Ashton United in the 1980's.

Report This Reply

I did in fact stop by the match. Castleton could not pass, their form was very poor and they did not have a skilled man on their side. I played in Poland in the 1980s and the sides I was a part of there would have not even surrendered a goal to the Gabs.

I don't want to reiterate some of the negative comments Tommy and Malcolm have made about the fittness fo the Gabs, but they look very slow in person. They call me Dash because I am fast.

Report This Reply

What a coincidence. Dash Walny is an anagram of Andy Walsh. Come on Malcolm, you can do better than that. Er, no. On second thoughts, the words "Malcolm" and "better" just don't fit in the same sentence, do they? Give it a rest moy boy.

Report This Reply

Well that's all very interesting. Tell me, 'Dash', and what did you think of the Gabs novel first goal celebration. Perhaps you would care to elaborate and give your valued opinions on celebrations of this type. Arguments for and against please. You say you played in Poland in the 1980. Now there's a football story I am sure everyone would like to read. Which club did you play for and whom did you play against.

Well I was by the main stand when the fellow from the Gabs jumped up into the seats and gave himself a little clap. I was the only one in the area cheering for him. I took it as a taunt to the FC United fans to sit down and be quiet, while like all unintelligent FC fans, the group near me took it as some sort of Glazer protest, which to them, everything is a Glazer protest.

I played for a few semi-pro teams in Warsaw, before emigrating to the States and then ending up in Manchester.

They call me Dash because I am fast.

What is an anagram?

Report This Reply

Well Dash you may have claimed to play top flight football but I actually did. I know my career was not a long one but I did play twenty times in La Liga in the 60's. From what I have seen of this new Manchester United i don't think Mr Glazer has much to fear. Its good that park football is still alive in the UK but thats all it is I am afraid.

Ken an anagram is what people used to send before the advent of emails. In Britain it was usually delivered by somone on a motor bike as this was considered the fastest way to get a message to someone. I think its a little like FCUM though. They still haven't got the message. Perhaps there has been a mix up with the directions?
