JOSH Howard has had a blast from Fergie's hairdryer - now he knows what it's like to go through Margy's mangle!
The former Manchester United youth team captain made his debut for FC United as they lost 2-1 in the League Challenge Cup to an injury-time goal against first division Colne.
And he found out that FC boss Karl Marginson can be as angry as the man from Govan when he sees his team lose.
"He wasn't happy," said Howard. "Perhaps he was a bit more constructive than Fergie, but he was not impressed with the way we defended."
The 25-year-old midfielder captained the Old Trafford youth team that included John O'Shea, Luke Chadwick and Michael Stewart, but fell foul of Fergie's wrath after he signed up with the United boss's least favourite agent Mel Stein.
Howard was singled out by Marginson as one of the few plus points on a disappointing afternoon for FC United and their amazing support - over 2,700 smashed the stadium record at Conference side Accrington Stanley's Interlink Express Stadium. But he will be missing for two weeks now, banned for a red card he picked up while with Mossley.
Punch
Marginson threatened his defenders with a shake-up after a game which ended in grand style with three goals in the last three minutes, followed by a touchline melee in which FC United's Rory Patterson was sent off, despite already having been substituted, for throwing a punch.
Said Marginson: "My assistant Phil Power tried to retrieve the ball when it went out of play, and one of their players tried to kick the ball away. He booted the ball at Phil who pushed him and then three or four of them jumped in.
"It's not something I want to see at football, especially when we have a big crowd like this."
It was nip and tuck, with FC keeper Barrie George pulling off two incredible saves in the first-half.
The goals did not start to come until three minutes from the end when Chris Clarke was allowed time and space to pick his spot and curl a beauty into the far corner of the FC United net.
Torpey replied with 10 seconds of normal time left - he tried to jink his way through the heart of a determined Colne defence and when he was pulled back, picked himself up to smash the free-kick around the wall and into the bottom corner.
The delirious FC fans were silenced again 90 seconds into added time as their defence was caught napping by a long ball over the top and on-loan Altrincham player Gary Williams raced clear to crash the winner past George.
How did you rate FC's performance? Have your say.

Could I take this chance to state that, adfter a lot of reasoned argument from the die hard fans of FCUM that I fully appreciate where the fans of FCUM are coming from and that as far as any further comments on the team and/or the Board of the Club are concerned that I will not be making any further comment. I would like to say sorry for any offence my comments may have provoked in the past.
Another good day but unfortunately as we were mugged in the last minute on Sunday it brought back memories of the Norton game. Could n't see from behind the goal if the first FC goal was offside it looked well worked. FC had the beating of them but up front they were particularly mobile and we did n't win too much knock down or second ball. Looking forward to playing them next season and it's not hard to see why they are a First Division team they were quite well organised. The new lad Howard seemed to fit in well and it's a pity we will be without him because of the sending off he brought from Mossley. In addition it looks like Rory Patterson could be handed a ban because of his sending off. All in all a good performance particularly from Barrie George, Dave Chadwick, Simon Carden and Ryan Gilligan. "Phil and Grant" along with their radios moved quickly when the handbags started towards the end. Fans and players from both sides did football proud with the one minute silence. Well done.
Eric b " I saw them as well, more Max and Paddy if you ask me. The chewing gum and smell of Old Spice was a dead giveaway. Having said all that they did a good job.
well done colne, well don fcee,
great game all for 7quid,
and thanks to accrington,
super day out
sorry 6quid it should be
Another good day of football. I thought both keepers were magnificent. I also think that the word has got around that our defence is a bit on the slow side. In the second half Colne just booted the ball upfield for one of their speed merchants to latch onto. On two occasions it worked and they scored two goals. Never mind, I thought our new No. 7 had a good game. He will be one to watch. All in all a good performance against a good side.
Did anyone read that laughable impersonation of Malcolm on here. It has to be someone who has finally lost their marbles. No one with half a brain cell would believe it was him. Then again we are talking about FCUM camp followers so I guess it might work.
MALCOLM TAMPA - Thanks for your apologies. Your comments are welcome as long as you have a point and we dont get into silly slanging e-mails. Dont forget despite the association with Man Utd the club is only a few months old and is trying to give all fans a chance to enjoy a game of football, its our game and we make it what it is. I havent even got the heart to say anything on the Colne game as these young lads are only amateurs and we lost to a team we could have beaten. But thats football.
I still care about Man Utd but its lost some of the soul that made it a CLUB.
So FCUM have found their level. That didn't take long did it. 2-1 to Colne and it should have been 4-1. Looks like my prediction of 2,000 was about right too. Its good to see that football has triumphed over hype.
Oh and it was good to see Colne only charge B#6 to get in. Another team might have chosen to exploit the likely crowd size to their financial advantage. Shows the Colne Board are acting with integrity. Well done Colne!
and what was that fracas on the touchline about. No wonder Marginson thinks so highly of the fans web site. Back to the 70's boys.
What a good game it was on Sunday old beans. Nothing like roughing up the opposition. Its what we do best. Pity they didn't have any scousers playing
Ah what a shame the mighty FC knocked out of the cup. I was quite suprised at the lack of postings. Actually I'm not suprised at all really as you've probably lost 2/3's of your fans now that there isn't as much glory to seek now!!!!!!
HA HA HA HA HA
Apart from driving home in the dark (bloody winter!!!), the day was most enjoyable. Yeah, ok we lost, but the spirit and banter amongst the fans is still something you wont see at the 'Theatre of Dreams'. Phil & Grant....what a pair of plebs they were. no sooner had they set off from the big boys end, the scuffle was over. One lad even staged his own one man pitch invasion, closely followed by some young kid who on seeing the Accy stewards, changed his mind and headed back to the stand. By the way, did anyone see any dibble at the game..??? Me neither. How refreshing is that..???
Yesterday's game reminded of the '79 Cup Final against the gooners, football can be cruel at times but you have have to take the rough with the smooth. Hopefully our smooth will be the 2nd Division title and we still have the chance of the Division Two Trophy (i feel better all ready). Watchin Fcccc
Thank you Paul from Bury. FC still get bigger crowds though. You must be gutted. Can't see you beating Scunnie away. Never mind all to play for in the league.eh?
It was not me Malcolm sorry.
Another great day out watching fc united.
Talk about value for money B#6 or even B#7 for days like this, how can you even try to compare it to paying B#28 pounds to go old Trafford and sit in silence watching(in general) a load of premadona's playing negative football for 90 mins. Just remind me who it is that's being ripped off again????
Max and paddy aka grant and phil Mitchell were a great laugh, gutted about the result but hey at least we can concentrate on promotion now.
"We're on the march with margy's army, we're all going to division 1!!!"
With Skelmesdale flying at the top of division one, I can well understand why the League Challenge Cup will have a great attraction to clubs such as Colne. Reading the match day programme, it seems the FA is making it harder for teams from division's equal to NWCL first division to gain promotion. It looks as though the old Conference bottleneck is being recreated between step 4 and 5 with that the likes of Nantwich Town and Curzon Ashton falling first victims. I was surprised as many as 2700 plus fans turned out for an away game. Some League clubs don't get that at home. Some non-league clubs don't get that all season. Our unit play was a bit patchy and our defence was left exposed a lot. But we did enjoy a great deal of possession and pressed Colne for long spells. They had a good bit of possession but did employ the long-ball tactic, which ultimately played off. MEN wrote, "Gary Williams raced clear to crash the winner past George". I was a bit surprised the second Colne goal was allowed to stand when Williams tackled our defender from behind and won more ankles than ball. Having said that, with so many fouls being committed on and off the ball by both teams I was surprised there weren't more red cards. Handbags at 10 paces near the end rounded off an entertaining game with a touch of cabaret. I don't think that night club style 'Eviction Technicians' have the right mentality for football matches. I think that 'Laurel and Hardy' failed to look professional whilst taking great pleasure in getting a bit of what they really came for. Clubs should stick to proper stewards and match officials when players fall out. Good luck to Colne in round three. Next up a league game v. Darwen (away) on Saturday and back to the business of winning promotion. Come on FC. Viva la FCUM.
Eric - Nor me, but I bet spineless from 'Tampa' would like to think so. FCUM.
I was just thinking when we have secured our own stadium in Manchester i'm sure we'll all be singing 'Footballs coming home'. Can't wait for that day. Watchin Fcccc
I thought the lad Howard fitted in well on the right and he was by far our best player. We seem to be lacking pace at the back but hopefully Margy will sort it out. As for the scenes at the end, not quite United v Arsenal in 90', but nice to see a bit of passion!
great day out pity about the result. our defence is getting caught for pace, this has happened on several occasions now Winsford,Oldham, and Norton. It was great to see some opposition fans for a change.
What a shame 'we wuz robbed'. I was looking forward to a replay and another 3000+ crowd at home. I assume it would have been a replay anyway (not penalties etc.). But we can still do a Division 2 double, especially since we have New Mills or Chadderton in the quarter final of the D2 Trophy, neither of whom have set the division alight.
Howard looked promising, with a couple of particularly nice touches. No relation to Tim I hope. We do need to start coping with that ball over the top though.
I wonder whether the FA will give Mr Mystery the "United Treatment" and ban him for 3 games.
Bring on Darwen and lets hope Chadderton do us a favour.
Everyone is goin on about "Max and Paddy" and the real star of the show aint gettin a mention, that ginger steward! Did you see the right hook she gave the pitch invader?!
