GOLF fanatic Steve Burr was in the middle of a round when he received a text message from his wife telling him who Northwich Victoria's next FA Cup opponents will be.

A December 3 trip to either fellow non-Leaguers Woking or Southport will be regarded by many as akin to him having driven his ball into a bunker.

But the Vics' chief sees it as a golden opportunity for his Nationwide North high-fliers to join the likes of Premiership giants Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal in the third-round proper.

"I was hoping the lads would get the top tie they deserved after our win at Morecambe, but at least this game gives us another great chance to progress," said Burr.

"Going to Woking or Southport won't be easy, but we've already comprehensively beaten one Conference side and, hopefully, we can do that again."

Vics, who have battled through four rounds to reach the second-round proper, have already stacked up a cool £34,750 in FA Cup prize money and victory at the next stage would see them add a further £24,000.

Oldham, who were held to a 1-1 draw by minnows Chasetown, will face Brentford if they see off their Midland Alliance challengers.

Stockport, who beat Swansea 2-0, are away to Hereford, and Macclesfield will play Walsall if they triumph in their replay with Yeovil.

Bury, meanwhile have drawn Aldershot away if they despatch Scunthorpe.

Non-League Burscough could face a trip to Peterborough as reward for knocking League One Gillingham out.

The UniBond League Premier Division side scored two late goals to stun the Gills 3-2 and will now travel to League Two Peterborough or Conference strugglers Burton Albion in round two.
