The Welshman, who joined from Rochdale in the summer, has kept three clean sheets in his last five appearances and Chris Casper's side have now lost just once in eight league games.
"Just before Graham Barrow went, we had a couple of good results and then Chris came in and added his different ideas on the training ground," said the 34-year-old.
"We'd been working tirelessly but it hadn't been going quite right and we knew we had to tighten up. We got one or two decent results and that always helps. I had a similar spell at Rochdale last season.
"As soon as you stop conceding the silly goals, it gives you confidence all the way through the team. We know we've just got to keep working as hard at it as we are."
Bury beat Notts County twice last season. Chris Porter scored the winner in a 1-0 home win, while midfielder Brian Barry-Murphy netted in the 1-0 away victory.
But Barry-Murphy will be missing tomorrow. He is expected to be out of action for at least five weeks, having had an operation for cartilage damage to his left knee.
Also missing will be striker Allan Smart (knee) and Lee Unsworth (groin), while Jon Newby is doubtful with an ankle injury.
Former Macclesfield hitman Matthew Tipton should return after missing the 1-1 draw with Chester because of flu.
