FC United 5 Nelson 0

FC United's third 3000 plus crowd in a row saw the Reds lord it over Nelson in their top of the table battle.

The opening exchanges showed two teams conceding little to each other as the tackles flew in, both sides attempting to take hold of the game.

It was United however who made the breakthrough on 18 minutes, with Paul Mitten' making his first start for the club after a frustrating first two months of the season on the sidelines injured, curling a fine shot into the top corner from 25 yards.

The game began to open up a lot more, Nelson's Michael Holt forcing a tremendous point blank save from United keeper Barrie George and Adie Orr hitting the post for the reds.

It remained 1-0 until the 61st minute when Steve Spencer slotted home after a mix up in the Nelson defence.

The second goal gave United the cushion they needed to express themselves more and within seven minutes they had scored two more, Adie Orr grabbing them both with Darren Lyons and Rory Patterson involved in both moves.

Simon Carden made FC's second five goal haul in a week in the last minute of the game.

He broke through from what looked like an offside position but the referee didn't blow and he sent a delightful chip over the despairing Hewitt in goal.

How did this FC United performance rate? Have your say.

Good game. The score doesnt tell true tale in that Neslon, for long parts of the game were very good indeed. The tall lad at number 9 being a real handful. In the though the skill of Orr and Mystery were too much and I have to say, some class goals were scored.

Another big crowd, another good day out.

Big thank you to the woman in the tea bar who shouted to the other girls to go somewhere else and get some work done. Scared my lad to death. God bless northern lasses!

Alternative headline. ' FCUM sharpshooters commemorate 200th anniversary in style' . The last time Nelson fell this far was O'Connell St in 1966. Don't mean to crow from the crows-nest but as they say....
History is written by the winners . Vive la FCUM

another great day, another great win. Paul Mitten starting his first game scoring what is probably the goal of the season so far. and the defending at times was first class,if this is pub football then bring it on.one slight gripe tho the Aidie/spandy bllx song is just a little bit soft, still never mind eh see you all at the next game

One in the eye for one of our promotion rivals. The lines man tried to give them a hand by declaring us off side more times than I can remember. Still, they say things always even themselves out and Simon Carden goal was definitely not off side. No way. He was on side by at least three leagues. Nelson were sunk anyway. Now what was that song again "Your sister is your mother, your father is your brother, you all s**g one another, the Nelson family. Do, do, do, do,.. There's no arm in a little banter.

Excellent game of football. We took a little time to get a grip on the game but once we got two goals up you could see Nelson starting to wain. They never gave up and Barrie George made a few brilliant saves to make sure they never got back into the game. Some of our goals were pure class, a 25 yard curler for the first and coolness to chip the rushing out Nelson keeper for the fifth. Watchin Fccccc

Just got back from a day in the Capital. Still buzzing over Saturday - great game and my shirt arrived. Nelson put up a brave fight and a couple of their players were quite capable especially the big lad up front. Chadwick had his best game so far and deservedly got the match point. Mittens opening goal was a pleasure to watch and a good team performance cemented our place at the top of the league. Margie is right and we look a lot stronger than the opposition during the last third of the game and it's beginning to tell. Padiham slipped up but Winsford did n't. He sells asparagus! Classic. Roll on next week. Under the boardwalk watching FCeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeee

Free Red - I'll agree that the FCUM games have been exciting so far. I'm still just bother by links I see between SU/FCUM to groups like the "Trade Union Congress" who are certainly not advocating changes to just sport. I've said a few times if FCUM were to drop all the Cuban/socialism/communism undertones to their games, I would fly over to Gigg Lane for a game with my shoe buckles shined. I still say that if you think FCUM is all about football, you are incorrect and misguided The people on the board have a real grudge with "the system" and in turn by supporting FCUM you are supporting something that I don't think the fans would want to support. Where there is smoke . . ..

I've been away for the weekend so had to miss this one. Well done lads on another great result.

You're spot on Tommy, this isn't just about football as no sport exists in a bubble and you just can't ignore the politics that led to MUFC being sold like a cheap tart.

I, along with the majority involved with FCUM, am totally against the capitalist exploitation of our sport, and the commodification of our culture. The sport we all love developed into such a great game partly because it was protected from financial predators for most of its history, and now it isn't because the game's administrators have now allowed capitalism to be its guiding force.

So yes, we have ideals and principles that are much more closely aligned with socialism than capitalism. If you don't like it then fine, you can continue to lap up the commodified consumer experience elsewhere, and leave us in our utopian socialist dreamland.

Just another amazing day out, great crowd and fantastic atmosphere. My kids can't stop talking about FC. It cost me B#11 for myself and the 2 kid. Where else could I get that value for money?

Col, Gorton - On a previous related MEN story about 'pictures of FC', you asked about what would happen to FC as and when the Glazers leave. That is a very good question which I have asked myself. I will continue to support FC United whatever happens in the future. For the first time in my life, I don't have a problem supporting two clubs. The thing is Col, I couldn't live with myself if I stood by and did nothing if the worst happens to United. I have absolutley no faith in the Glazers what so ever. If United do go belly up, I want to at least have done something along with other fans that might make a difference. If on the other hand if the Glazers pull a rabbit out of the hat and say "This is how our plan will work", and if the financial experts are proved wrong and we all go "phew! Thank goodness for that, at least United won't go to the wall", the cost's of following the team week in week out will still be beyond the reach of a large number of Uniteds grass roots fans - who are generally the best fans. The ideal solution might be if FC United and United played on alternate week's home and away so fans could mix and match better. We're all the same fans anyway. The alternate weekends are already in place between City and United (without the mix and match) so it is possible. I think this would be of real benefit to fans and this is why. There will always be a relatively low number of away tickets available at all levels. Was it 1500 for United's last Sunderland away game because United fans wouldn't sit down a few years ago? I saw the highlights of this year's fixture and the terraces were empty. What a joke. It occurs to me if only 1500 can get in, that thousands more are either watching TV or out shopping. Almost any fan would choose a live game over watching TV or shopping - especially the latter. I'm sure other fans have other ideas that I would like to discuss at next years AGM. It's defiantly a subject in need of debate. You appreciate these are just a few thought of my own. But for now and the foreseeable future I'll be watchin' FCeee. One last thought on the credibility of the Glazers. The Bucs do have one of the best records in the NFL this year, but like United, they will win nothing because the players wage demands will not be met by the Glazers. That's because the freeloading yanks have taken the fans money and used it to line their own pockets instead of investing in the team which is what all fans want. As though the Glazers don't have enough money. They made millions when they practically held the people of Tamps to ransom. They agreed with the local Government to pay half towards the Bucs new stadium. Part of the arrangement was to allow the local community to use the stadium free of charge for other events. On completion, Glazer threatened to take the Bucs to another state if he wasn't given ownership of the whole stadium. The local Government caved in and now have to pay Glazer for use of the stadium they paid for in the first place. You will not striking similarities to the hostile take over at OT in that he is trying to get fans to buy United for him through inflated ticket prices and merchandise. I won't pay. I've dug the dirt on these monsters and what I have written so far is just an appetiser. FCUM

P.S. It was great to see Cuban star pin badges on sale at the 'mega-stall'. I've just ordered my Vasco da Gama style away shirt from the FC United on line shop. I was a little disappointed there weren't any Cha T shirts or Cuban flags for sale but I'm sure they will both come in time. Still Havana a good laugh. Viva la Revolution. Viva la FCUM.

The case of Regina versus Malcolm of Tampa continues. After a break, Tommy returns to his seat in front of the video link camera, in his capacity as character witness for the accused.
QC: Now, Mr Tommy. Have you fully recovered from the shock of learning that your supposed comrade-in-arms, Malcolm of Tampa, is in fact a raging, fervent champion of left-wing causes? Tommy - MUFC has always had Socialist roots, why shouldn't FC continue that tradition? Especially now the money men have taken over at "Big" United...
Apart from that and back to the football, it was one of the most enjoyable days I've had at Gigg Lane. We looked a little shaky at first and still have a tendency to give the ball away a little too easily but once we'd scored we came out in the second half oozing with confidence and the football improved. A couple of fantastic goals amongst the five scored and once again a wonderful audience to appreciate it all. Smiling for ninety minutes is starting to become a bit painful though, don't you agree?!

Free Red,Manchester. Thanks for replying. I was an OT regular for 30yrs and went to the meeting at OT cricket ground and spoke at it to try and prevent MUFC becoming a PLC, when we didn't succeed i must admit i lost heart because for me that was a protest we shouldn't have lost. Every cloud has a silver lining and years after FC was born and have everything in place as to how a football club should be run. I am aware of Glazer's dealings and for me the only way he can keep MUFC afloat is to hike up the prices but the cracks are already showing before he has chance to do so. I think the United/City is different to United/United playing on same day because of segrating the fans on home days. I can see more fans turning their backs on the Glazerdome especially for the start of next season when the full effect of the parasites will be realized. Do you know what the rules are for standing at grounds in the various leagues? The reason why i ask is i wouldn't want FC to play in the PL and lose our atmosphere and our enjoyment of attending a game. Watchin Fcccc

RED RIVS, SALE - I couldn't agree with you more about this left, right, centre half politics smoke screen by Malcs bosom buddy. The only voting I'm interested in will be at the AGM. One member one vote. A club from the fans, for the fans and by the fans. Isn't this something American prides itself on? Either that, or America isn't democratic and we've backed the communists all along. Viva la FCUM.

Chris, Chorlton, are you saying that if I don't agree with your politics that I have no business watching FC. Or is there an agenda to this club that I am not aware of. I thought it was all about football, enjoying yourself and no other agendas

Free Red - Once again you have shown your ignorance in regards to the Glazers. NFL teams operate under a SALARY CAP that is binding (and accpected by the Players Assocation and owners). The Fans absolutely love it because that means there will never be any teams like the New York Yankees (Or Chealsea) that just go out and by Championships.

The old Stadium in Tampa (Tampa Stadium or Hoolihans Stadium) was a big piece of crap. It was all bleachers and it was nicknamed the "Big Sombrero" because it was shaped like a big freaking Sombrero. Nobody liked it or thought it was nice. If they say they did, they must have been really drunk at every game or they are lying their watoozies off. Baltimore was offering big jack to the Glazers to move the Bucs there. The Colts moved to Indy in 1984 and Baltimore hadn't had a team since. They ended up with the Browns (renamed Ravens) and won the Super Bowl in 2000. (Game played in Tampa). Basically you are misguided about who was responsible for the high stadium costs. It is the "competiveness" between cities themselves that drives them to offer owners sweetheart deals to keep the teams there. And a matter of pride. The Tampa Bay Sports Authority runs the Stadium (NOT THE GLAZERS) and what a bunch of government crooks that bunch is. The TBSA is big on giving themselves a bunch of freebie tickets, drinks and other perks that they feel they deserve as government officials. They botched just about everything in regards to the stadium (including the recent pat downs) and their mismanagement is more a contributing factor than any greed of Glazer. The Glazer are greedy, but they are following through on the State-of-the-art practice facility across from Ray Jimmy and despite all the negative press, the family has a very large charitable giving foundation.

Any city of any size in the States wants to either retain their current NFL team or if they don't have one, obtain one. Which says a lot about the state and popularity of the league. And hey guess what? We even voted for the new Stadium and it was approved through the CIT. The new stadium is the pride of the NFL and the area and has been instrumental in obtaining the 2000 Super Bowl and the 2009 Super Bowl. All big news for an area that thrives on tourist dollars. Get your facts straight before you open your mouth Free Red.
