Cheadle 1 FC United 5

ADIE Orr wrote his name into the FC United history books with the club's first hat-trick - in front of another sell-out crowd at the Tameside Stadium.

But the striker, released by Manchester City as a teenager, admitted afterwards that he grew up a Blue!

Orr produced three quality goals to sink battling Cheadle in front of another sell-out crowd to send the Rebels into the second round of the Moore and Co Solicitors League's Challenge Cup - where they will face first division high-flyers Colne.

And he said: "I grew up in Withington, just round the corner from Platt Lane, so I was bound to take an interest in City.

"But the fans here are unbelievable and just keep getting better. Where will it end? I suppose only the suporters know the answer to that one."

With capacity restricted by safety officials in a game switched from Cheadle's ground, 2,400 supporters were at the new stadium in Ashton to see the Rebels win their first ever cup tie, in the Moore and Co Solicitors League's Challenge Cup.

Cheadle gave the new club, who top the second division, a first-half shock by going ahead on 26 minutes when David Carpenter lifted his shot over keeper Barrie George.

With keeper Troy Whittle secure behind a hard-working team, they rarely looked troubled - until Orr stuck his oar in.

Glancing

United manager Karl Marginson wants his team to play football, but the equaliser, on the stroke of half time, was route one.

Kevin Elvin lifted a long ball to the edge of the area and when big striker Joz Mitten headed down, Orr darted between two defenders to thrash the ball home.

That took some of the wind out of Cheadle and two goals in a minute in the second half settled it.

Rory Patterson got the faintest of glancing headers to Darren Lyons' inswinging free kick on 64 minutes and then Orr calmly side-footed home.

Simon Carden made it safe eight minutes from time by crashing in a half-volley.

Orr completed the second half rout by lobbing Whittle with two minutes to go.

The scoreline was tough on Cheadle, but chairman Chris Davies had the comfort of unprecedented gate receipts and now they have what he calls `a double whammy' as they face them in the league next month.

"FC United are great for non-league football - this season division two will gain financially and then, presuming they get promoted, the first division will benefit next season," he said.

How far can United go in the Cup? Have your say.

Absolutely fantastic. A good win after going one down but played well towards the end of the first half and through the second half. Well done to Adie Orr on the hat trick. How long is Torpey out for? Any chance of him getting a game on Saturday? Cheadle chairman Chris Davies - "FC United are great for non-league football - this season division two will gain financially and then, presuming they get promoted, the first division will benefit next season," Proving that FC United is playing it's part in getting grass roots football the helping hand it needs. Clubs like Cheadle et al will benefit from playing our Club and I don't mind that at all. It just gets better and better. Colne v FC United in the next round I can't wait. It will be good to pitch ourselves against a Div 1 side then at least we know what our expectations will be next season. Cone will be a good test for the squad. Lets see if we can beat the United United day gate on Saturday. Nelson have the leading scorer in Div 2 playing for them but we have Adie Orr and he has the power to score he's indestructible..............so it should be interesting. I'm taking the usual seven along with me. Under the boardwalk watching FCeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

With performances like that and the support we clearly have: all the way!

Bring on the FA Vase next season!

Congrats to FCUM. Anyone know any little countries we can invade? I'm from the United States, geography isn't my strong point.

I think that it is too early to be sure. However we can take a lot of positives from the game against cheadle. The next round will be tough and we need to tighten up as a unit. If we do that who knows? We could have a shot at winning it!!!!

Sounds strange to say it after a 5-1 victory, but they'll need to play a lot better if they're going to have a real chance of doing well in the competition. The first 45 minutes was probably the worst I've seen them play, but that was credit to Cheadle, who hassled and harried and didn't let them get the ball down and play it. Second half, Cheadle visibly tired and United's superior fitness and ability told. Aidie Orr in particular ran his heart out from beginning to end and thoroughly deserved the match ball. Unfortunately Cheadle couldn't afford to give him it as they've only got two. The scoreline somewhat flattered United though and they will need to turn it on for more than half a game if they are to progress against better opponents than Cheadle.

"Andy why won't you post the question about why FC United "can't afford" to play tonights game at Stockport County. Don't you want to help your fans or is it too near the knuckle? " One of yours I believe Malcolm? Just to clarify the facts for you. You intimated that it was a decision of the directors of FCUoM to move the cup tie against Cheadle to Curzon Ashton and not take the option playing at Stockport County. Could I refer you to the rules of NWCL? It is up to the home Club (Cheadle Town) to advise the away Club (FCUoM) and the Match Officials and in addition the Board (of NWCL) shall have the power to decide whether a ground is suitable for Competition matches and to order a Club whose ground is deemed unsuitable to play its home matches at alternative suitable ground. Get it right you idiot before spouting off. Could I suggest that other posters don't rise to the bait of this person?

Malcolm can you see why Cheadle declared the game all ticket? Fair play to them when the original plan was to play at their ground and they had no choice but to limit the crowd to 2000 b" hence all ticket. The switch did Cheadle a favour. Stockport could have been better b" but alas a decision out of the hands of FCUoM. From the rules - The home Club shall retain all gate receipts. Where a match is declared all ticket the Away Club shall be entitled to 10% of the total number of tickets available or a minimum of 600, whichever is the greater, subject to any stipulation by the relevant safety authority affecting these figures. So FC United were entitled to what is prescribed in the Rules and Cheadle got the rest. Good luck to them I don't begrudge handing over my money. I hope that this clarifies things for you.

Another superb performance from Adie Orr. When Cheadle scored on the break, their formation almost changed to a flat back nine with loan striker. I was beginning to think it was going to be one of those games. The equaliser at the stroke of half time ended that. The second half started quite even, but after our second goal they had to press forward. After our third their heads were down. The game then became a rout. Adie Orr's last goal was fantastic. From a tricky angle he just chipped the ball goalwards and it bounced nicely into the back of the net. Three of theirs ran for it but it went over the line just as they arrived. I took a mate to his first FC United game last night, who took me to my first United game in 1981. He stopped going to O.T. when all seater grounds were introduced. He just said it was like the old days and is going to Gigg lane for the Nelson game on Saturday.

Can we go all the way? I'd love us to but there are some really top sides to overcome on the way. We can't expect too much of the lads too soon, that is the road to disappointment. As long as the boys give their all it will be enough for me. And if last night is anything to go by the ride will be fantastic!

What a night, absolutely brilliant. Stunning performance by Aidey Orr great team work and great atmosphere.

Mahola Fake Tommy - Thanks for the wonderful post. Americans lack of geographic knowledge is partly hyperbole and partly because the US is so large you couldn't see it all in a lifetime if you wanted to. My Geography 101 class said that Bury is not in Manchester. Anyways, it was nice of FCUM mouthpiece Stuart to write of the wonderful victory. I wonder if he write prose of the the "Dear Leader" in his free time? Another Sell Out? When was the first?

Yes it was a good night and a good result. I think we are all too long in the tooth to let our imaginations run wild at this stage. Adie Orr was awesome last night but there are 10 others on the pitch who all contribute. Barrie George for such a young goalie shows a maturity beyond his years and we are fortunate to have strength right the way through the whole squad. In the First Division there are some quality teams, Skelmersdale, Nantwich, Newcastle etc.... and until we get tested against the better ones we will only then know how good our chances are for next season (assuming we get promoted.............). The top scorer at Skelmersdale has scored 22 goals (7 in the FA Cup). I think that the current team could cope in the First Division (the gap is not like Championship and PL) and the manager and coaching staff will have this in mind. With the exception of Lyons (still quality) and Power (still quality) we have a relatively young starting line up who have experience of playing this standard of football. All the players have a decent pedigree at this level and a few with professional experience. Each team raises their game against FCUoM and rightly so as it won't be very often they play in front of such large (partisan?) crowds. Fair play to them. And there is also the extra (2500+) man!!!!!!!!! Roll on Saturday. Under the boardwalk watching FCeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I notice by the FCUM webpage they have added a brand new Che Guevara flag! Excellent! When will the Swastika arm bands be ready for sale? Those will be a hot item, let me tell you. Horray! Let's throw a picture of a Cuban mass-murderer on a flag! That will show those Glazers that we mean us some buziness!

For those fellow posters who did not see my reply to one of Malcolms postings where he accused me of posting under a different name and submitting derisory comments on victims of the recent hurricane in America. Here it is. "Malcolm from Tampa. If there is a decent bone in your body then please do not tar me with the same brush as that offensive posting. I don't post under different names and I definitely did n't post that one. Sorry to disappoint you.." You are entitled to your opinion on our team but your comments on this occasion have gone too far.

Tommy Tampa. You asked when was the first sell out"? Flixton!

Assuming we get there where wil the final be held? I don't think there will be a ground in the league (apart from Gigg Lane) that could hold a full compliment of FCUoM fans. I'm quite confident that the crowds will be higher towards the end of the season if the beginning is anything to go by. Perhaps we might get some proper airtime then.

Can I make my reservation for Heinrich Himmler day? I have my t-shirt and flag ready! I know it is the FCUM board that keeps toting the Che Guevara stuff around, but do they know how ignorant and insulting that makes themselves look? FCUM fans, note to you: have fun at the games, sing your lungs out, slam some brews with your boys, root on your pub team to victory, overall enjoy the football and the day, but PLEASE leave the cuban politics alone. You are ignorant to the situation so please stop. What a day of celebration in the Sunshine state when old Fidel finally kicks it! If it really is "about football" the Cuban flags can go.

Tampa boys - what do you do with yourselves in between the M.E.N.'s FC United stories? There's obsessed and then there's obsessed. You are seriously in need of mates and/or girlfriends.

Tommy, TAMPA=Tommy And Malcolm Prats Anonymous. One question - Are you employed by Glazer to try and discredit FC United ?

Tommy get off your high horse. Your fellow countrymen for many years gladly funded the IRA in their campaign of killing, maiming and bombing innocent citizens in the UK. Have a go at those a bit closer to home before you get wound up by a couple of pictures. Oh I must remember to take a test next time before I discuss anything to ensure that you aren't insulted by my lack of knowledge. Or is it that you don't like people from this side of the Pond discussing stuff on your side? Hmmm, I may be onto something here........

To tommy 'bee in his bonnet about having fun'. The most outrageous goings on in Cuba are happening at Guantanamo Bay where the good ol' US of A is totally flaunting the geneva convention. And as for Castro. not to wonder he has to resort to desperat measures faced with the bullying blockage by the US.

Col - no not employed by Glazer, I'm just so puzzled why no one has ever questioned the FCUM board as to their real motives. I've met Glazer three times and found him to be quite a very pleasant fellow. Joel and Bryan seem like okay guys too, who really like sports in general. As sports team owners go they rank pretty high in terms of good ones. Not up there with Art Rooney or Robert Kraft, but okay still the same. They are kindof dorky, but no more than Eric the Red. This whole campaign by FCUM (Formerly the SU boys) to discredit Glazer through their propaganda is quite ridiculous. Their whole "Rich people need to be hated" campaign just bothers me. I think it should bother you too. I'm not a rich guy myself, but this agony like the world is ending because some rich guy bought MUFC is insane. Do Andy and Adam (and Stuart) stay up at night reading "Value, Price and Profit" to each other dressing up in military fatigues pretending to be Castro and Che? Is this what you want your kids to grow up to be? People that hate capitalism and British government? If so I feel sorry for you.

Here's me thinking sucker team is merely an American pronunciation rather than your way of life. Let see how you get on against a team from the top half of your fantasy table. FCUM the supporters without principle. What a despicable bunch of charlatans and plastic revolutionaries.
