FC United supporters are trying to bring Reds together by staging a `United United' day when their team play Daisy Hill at Gigg Lane tomorrow (3pm).
The departure of 2,000 hard-core Manchester United fans in the summer, precipitated by the Malcolm Glazer takeover, caused splits among the Reds' support, even between friends and families.
But the newly-formed FC United Supporters Group wants to heal the rifts. Steve Wood, one of the organisers, said: "Some Manchester United fans have seen FC as being anti-United, which isn't the case, and `United United' day is about proving that.
Opportunity
"It's the first time FC have been at home when 'big' United haven't got a game of any kind, so it's also an opportunity for United fans to come and sample the experience.
"It's not a selling tool, and we are not trying to say it's better than Old Trafford or anything, just a case of showing that we are all still on the same side.
"There are some United fans who will never come to watch FC, and fair play to them, but there are plenty of others wondering what it's all about, and this is a great chance for them to find out."
Organisers hope that the crowd may be boosted beyond the record 3,110 who saw FC re-establish a six-point lead at the top of the Moore and Co Construction Solicitors League Second Division by beating Oldham Town 1-0.
The day will also have a 1970s theme, complete with butchers' coats and bar scarves.
Striker Steve Torpey, one of the stars in the opening weeks of the season, will be missing with a hamstring strain but is expected to be back for the following week's League Challenge Cup tie at Cheadle Town.
How big - if any - is the rift between 'big' United and FC United? Have your say.

How big - if any - is the rift between 'big' United and FC United? Right now, "All I care about, is watching FC" (as the song goes). I had a word with the lad on the FC United stall Wednesday night. He told me they were hoping to have the away shirt available on line from Saturday. The manufacturers are already struggling to keep up with demand for the home shirt so I guess patience is in order. Don't forget it's United United day tomorrow - retro gear, scarves, rattles and all that. Come on FC!
FC United have a lot to answer for. I've fallen out with my mum because of this damn team. I went to see her last night and of all things she told me that she threw out my Skinners, Harrington, Ben Sherman and 19 hole Doc Martens in 1981 just after I got married. Now that's gratitude for you. This may need a trip around the charity shops at lunchtime to see if I can find any old Jason King or Mike Gambit cast offs. Pity I don't have the Barnett anymore though. If I can't find anything then I may be really controversial and wear last seasons home shirt. Can't wait for the morrow and the 2 car 8 person trip from Bradford. 4000 would be nice. Under the boardwalk watching FCeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeee'
THIS IS HOW IT FEELS TO BE HOME. 3100 on weds, more saturday. this is punk football. best moment of season so far is hearing my five year old daughter singing the rio song in the bath. cheers to everybody involved this really is the b*****ks p.s. anybody know how tall is rob nugent and what colour are his eyes. see you all tomorow in the swan or packhorse.
I think most of you on here do not understand my point of view. I support Manchester people right to be upset with Glazer and not patronize Manchester United. What I don't support is the owners and board of FC United for their inter-mixing of politics and football. When you go to the game this Saturday and see a "Hasta la victoria siempre" flag, know that many view this flag on the same level as a jewish person would view seeing a Swastika in the stands. Ask any of the Villa Clara, Cuba baseball players what it was like in Cuba after being returned after a failed attempt to escape the island after being banned from baseball after talking to Roland Arrojo and why they would risk their lives on two occasions to come to the United States. Che Guevara, Castro and "Hasta la victoria siempe" may be a joke to the owners of FCUM, but I find it disgusting, as should the fans who attend their games.
No gulf at all. The only gulf is of others making (you all know which 2 clowns I mean) & supporting FC is what I'll be doing until MU is owned by the fans. Simple as.
My mortgage is big enough without having to pay someone else's. MU will still be the first result I look for. I'll know the FC one because that's where I'll be.
I think any rift came about because of the arrival of the Glazers and there was two views as a result. One being that we must take action and the other lets wait and see. All those that started FC and have supported them so far believe its the way forward for the clubs traditions to carry on. We captured the soul of the club before it was lost for good. For me its the hour glass effect, we are of the same and in time the rest will filter through. Watchin Fccccc
The rift only exists with those who won't give FC a chance out of ignorance. Tomorrow we want try and prove that we have nothing against Man U (as we were all United fans for god's sake), the last thing most of us want is to argue with people who we've stood with for years on years at home, away and abroad. All we hope is that those who come down tomorrow enjoy the craic, have a good laugh and a sing-song, a few beers and take the mick out of the fat, ginger keeper. For those who don't want to come down that is there choice, we just hope that those that do have a great day. Forza FC!
Now wouldn't it be a bigger gesture if the plastic United jokers were to go and watch a Real United game? Any self respecting Real United fan is bound to think these people only want to see Real United destroyed because they didn't get the owner of their choice. 1970s theme, complete with butchers' coats and bar scarves indeed. Just the image FCUM want to portray. Back to the 70's when hooligans ruled the terraces and terrified the public on the streets. Suddenly the agenda is becoming clearer. As for Daisy Hill good luck in your efforts to put the plastics in their place.
We'd like all United fans to feel welcome tomorrow. It's a bridge building day, we want a carnival atmosphere.
You can wear United shirts, bring United flags and even cheer on Daisy Hill if you want.
But what ever you do, come on down, have a look and only then can you decide if FC United is for you or not.
Its massive!
John Hyde, Left Side. So why did you leave it so long to make your stand on United being owned by the fans. By my reckoning you should never have become a United fan. When was it EVER owned by the fans? You and your plastic mates are deluded. At least Eric the Pink agrees the rift is big.
Wednesday night was absolutley fantastic. Genuine fans that haven't forgotten how to enjoy themselves came on mass. Gigg lane was rocking. I have absolutely no doubt what so ever crowds will increase. FC United games really are that addictive. So is the curry. I've enjoyed reading through the comments posted by real match going fans. After weeks of wading through compete rubbish about FC posted by the Tampa twins this article's postings have been a breath of fresh air. I hope to read as much positive feedback on the Daisy hill game and United United day.
I predict 3,500 easy for this game... REALLY looking forward to it!

Onwards and upwards!

Hopefully this will banish any split between Big and Little United.
Aah bless, I thought these two faceless/nameless cretins had given up hiding behind their keyboards spewing their tedious (and completely wasted) venom on all things FCUM. Oh well never mind, day by day the 'anti' lobby finds its numbers dwindling and the club's base gets stronger and stronger. If ( and we all still know it's an 'if') MUFC heads slowly down the pan under the debt ridden shackles of these American idiots, at least local people will still be able to involve themselves in watching football in the area alongside the friends they've made through years of watching the game. Then Tedious Tommy and Morose Malcolm can turn up, pretend they've been going for ages while leaving their childish (and shamefully anonymous) Internet campaign behind as a sadly deluded bad memory.
Told you the clown would have something to say didn't I? The only gulf here is of his & tommy/malcom's making.
I didn't leave it late at all to try to get the ownership of the club into fans' hands. I was a shareholder. I'm not likely to tell you how many shares I had but if I said 1 it is probably 1 more than you, apathetic (or is that pathetic?) one!
No plastic mates here & all the blow-up ones, you've got.
My mortgage is big enough without having to pay someone else's. MU will still be the first result I look for. I'll know the FC one because that's where I'll be. Course I'll never see bitter tommy/malc there but then no loss. Just a pity I have to read the tripe they post.
Why give these "Tampa" clowns the honour of a direct reply?
Its the air they need to breathe.
is tommy for real. The mn has no spirit of united in him whereas fc has it in abundance.come on feel the noise tommy.
Many FC fans do go to Old Trafford. The point is to avoid putting money into the pockets of the people who have actually plasticized the match-going experience and those who have laid ever-increasing amounts of debt at the door of the fans who support the team. We didn't choose the owners because the law in this country gives us no control, unlike in most other European countries where its one fan one vote democracy. Oh, and Big United have had 70s days as well, at away matches.
No rift whatsoever with MUFC we are different branches of the same tree. Glazer Out !
Soccer Club United of Manchester...SCUM!!! I really thought you were something different, but it turns out you are a poor man's version of the rag filth. United were NEVER owned by the fans... remember Edwards!!! Hooligan chic yeah! yeah! Why not recreat the Law man's backheel before invading the gigg in your flairs and feather cuts. And how come you ripped off city's badge (c.1969-1972) for your badge!!!! SCUM... good idea but unfortunately just rags in sheeps clothing. ctid.

Malcolm, Tampa
Hooligans ruling the terraces? Oh yeagh mate I hear Daisy Hill are sending down a massive firm! All 20 of them. Iggnorent muppet.
Mabey I could of accepted peoples misgivings about trouble at matches at the beggining but I would of thought that nearly four monthes without any trouble would have put an end to all this hooligan rubbish. For some reason people seem to think that a group of football supporters who stand up and question things have to be hooligans. It was the same at the protest martches. In the main they were very peaceful but we still get depicted as drucken yobs for having the ordasity to actully stand up against what we see as the death of our club. This argument has been played out far too long mate. You dont like us, fine, just leave us be. We wont upset us and you can stop comming on here running your mouth every possible opportunity.
As a lifelong United fan, I have been fortunate enough to see FCUM from a relatively early stage, but my initial reaction when I heard about it was "its not for me".
I was invited to a game, went along, feeling pessimistic, and came away with the attitutude that if that is what FCUM is about then I want to be part of it.
Now 2 months later, I have missed one game, due to work, and I wouldnt dream of going anywhere else.
It can, and most probably will, blow your mind, like it did mine, and anyone who thinks that you lose any love for Man Unitted because of it, is way off the mark. You still love them just as much, only you see the things that could be done to make it better.
Mix the passion FCUM and the history and pride of MUFC and you would have the grreatest experience any football fan can ever have.
Tommy from Tampa. I appreciate your right to have a say, that is the meaning of free speech. However, I also have such a right and object to your small minded attacks on FC United supporters. I have supported MUFC for 45 years but have now chosen to move my allegience to FCUM because of greed. Greed of the chief executive, manager, so called world class players and owner/s.
Please don't come on here questioning my loyalty. No one questioned it in 1960 or in 1974 because I was there through thick and thin. The fact that I have chosen todraw a line in the sand does not mean that I no longer have an affinity to MY club, it just means that I am no longer willing to accept the corporate rape of the game and club that I love.
FC United have reminded me of how football (not soccer) used to be before the rapists ruined the game.
Come on, lets start reporting facts, not myths. FCUM is not made up of 2,000 hardcore former United supporters. Most these people have not been regulars at MUFC for donkeys of years, most of them hardly ever went to Old Trafford anyway.
All this talk of a united United day is rubish. FCUM is a club for quitters. It has no links with manchester United or its true supporters, so why try and cash in off the back of Uniteds name?
Anyone who attends FCUM is not fit to call themselves a Manchester United fan. So what if 5,000 turn up for this game or 10,000 turn up. Its not doing anything against Glazer, its not doing anything in terms of supporting MUFC or its future. If these 2,000 fans who call themselves hardcore, really cared about MUFC, then they would be at Old Trafford each week, through thick and thin. All FCUM is in aid of, is satisfying the egos of the clubs founders and providing them with full time jobs they couldnt previously obtain.
No rift, never was one. Come on get real eveyone now knows why FCUM exists.
Life is red.
