James: rarely tested, problem with his kicking at times (6).

Mills: Kept a tight grip on the dangerous Diouf (6).

Dunne: Gave powerhouse Davies little scope, especially in the air (7).

Distin: Marshalled his defence well when Bolton sent up their big men (7).

Thatcher: Steady in defence, good support for Musampa (6).

Sinclair: Game ended early by injury (5).

Reyna: Class act, he made City tick in midfield and almost scored (7).

Barton: Busy, busy and hit post with a great shot (8).

Musampa: Gave Ben Haim worrying moments but should have done better with shooting chances (7).

Sibierski: The big fella gave Bolton defenders a hard time in the air (7).

Vassell: Threatened early on but his menace diminished (5).

Subs: Sun (for Sinclair 25): Good steady show in the middle (6).

Jaaskelainen: Fines saves from Sibierski (twice) and Reyna but the best was from Ireland late on (9).

Ben Haim: Problems keeping track of Musampa out of position at right back (6).

Jaidi: Didn't enjoy the same working relationship with N'gotty as Ben Haim (5).

N'gotty: Still short of his best after a late start to the season (5).

Pedersen: His inexperience at left back was really exposed for the first time but he added threat when moved upfront (6).

Nolan: Busy in midfield and then upfront but needed more end product (6).

Faye: Good first 45 minutes on his Premiership debut (7).

Speed: Tucked away the penalty with great calmness under the ultimate pressure (8)

Stelios: Good on set pieces but struggled in open play and taken off (5).

Davies: Missed Bolton's best chance after 18 minutes (5).

Diouf: Struggled, unusually for him, to get involved and was replaced (5).

Subs: Campo (for Faye 45): Steadied Bolton defensively just when they needed it most (6).

Nakata (for Diouf 55): Showed some good touches on his Premiership debut (7).

Gardner (for Stelios 70): Tightened up Bolton at left back (6).

I thought Ireland was very impressive during the short period he was on the pitch. He was unlucky not to get a goal ( as were quite a few others) and was responsible for some very neat touches. I would like to see the likes of Ireland, Croft & BWP get more time on the pitch.
