LOVE him or loathe him, the M.E.N.'s senior sports writer can guarantee to provoke a lively debate whenever he puts pen to paper.
No-one puts the cat among the pigeons quite like the former professional footballer turned journalist, and, as in his playing days, he is not afraid to step on people's toes.
Paul makes no secret of his leanings towards the Blue side of town, but has been known to get a few Blue backs up over the years with his forthright views on the beautiful game.
Keep up to date with Hince's views on football and sport in general.

As a season ticket holder and regular subscriber to a local United Fanzine, I would like to point out a current survey carried out amongst the fans with regards to Sir Alex Fergurson's tenure at Old Trafford.
Specifically, the poll invites members to address a point which has divided many united down the middle. Should Sir Alex Fergurson stay or go?
Could be an interesting article for you and your column.
Thanks,
Akram.

My selection of the best Great Britain side ever agrees with yours, with the exception of the two Fullbacks. In these positions I would have Jimmy Arnfield and Roger Byrne, both of whom were born within a stones throw of the city centre of Manchester.
I don't suppose you could have selected these two since that would mean there would not be one player from present day soccer.

Jim Gannon for manager - no question about it. The difference on the pitch is cler to see after just two games in charge. The team is playing football like it is supposed to be instead of long ball which doesn't suit the players. The players appear to have belief and confidence in him and I believe with him in charge they will avoid the drop.
The only worry to me is that the board do not have the experience or expertise in choosing the manager of a football club. I feel they may go for the name rather than someone who is committed to the club, is a very good coach and has great tactical awareness as shown from the past two games. I hope Stockport fans make their feelings clear that he is the man for the job- after all we are supposed to own the club!!

CONFIRMATION OF CITY SUPPORT
Dear Paul,
Twelve months ago, in the days when a supporter shouts down from level 2 to his mate "Hey Alan do you want to borrow me book", and armchair Man/United fan had slipped into the ground shouts out loud "Ive never seen such bad boring football in all my life. City fan replies, "Is this the first time you have been here? Roars of laughter. Looking across to the bench, once again to see KK sinking his turtle neck further down into his coat. Coming out of the ground my daughter, grandson Leo aged then 11 and I, heads down moving towards to carpark. My daughter with alarm whispers to me, 'Leo wants to go to watch United.' 'Ignore him' was my short reply. Next day phone rings 'Mum he's asked again to go and see United.' ''Ignore him was my reply. Several days later phone rings, my daughter 'Oh Mum we will have to take him to watch United we have got to give him freedom of choice.'
So the following week all three of us went to the dreaded match. Of course they won 2.0. Leaving the ground, with intrepidation I asked the question "Leo, what do you think? Leo, well Nanna, I was bored. Bored, Why? Leo, "Well you know when you go there that they are going to win, but at City its EXCITING you never know if we are going to lose! Season tickets have all been renewed!

City built a whopping 48k stadium to accomadate their fans, but they only manage to sell out against Man Utd.....hardly the sign of a massive club.
If you look at Citys history, they're nowhere near as successful as the likes of Everton, Tottanham or even Sunderland for that matter. yet they're convinced they 'deserve' success. Why? Because Manchester happens to be a bigger city than most? If that's the case they should hand out all the awards to the London clubs before the season has even begun.
I'd also like to thank those over-so-loyal City fans for adding another person to their ever expanding managerial caualty list as well. Stuart Pearce is a likeable fella, but his chances of staying in the job longer than another few seasons is about the same as Glenn Roeders at Newcastle.......the fans will turn as soon as they realise they've appointed another duffer, yet they were full of praise after he had a good start in the hot seat.....you get my drift?
City suffer from the biggest case of DELUSIONAL GRANDEUR I've ever known. Time to get real & realise that having more fans (even though most aren't from Manchester, a la Man Utd) doesn't mean you've got this divine right to be successful.
Thanks for keeping the rest of the country amused, Man City, and long may your rants about being MASSIVE continue.

For me the only plus to come from this world cup are the performances of Hargreves, joe cole, lennon and ashlea cole.
All the so called BIG TIME players never performed, a lot of that in my opinion is down to the manager, but my biggest concern is that Mclaren is not the wrigt man for the job.
He in my opinion has had to much involement in the team tactics for erickson to be his own man, my personal chioce would be BIG SAM, but when paul wrote in his coulem that the job woul suit a two man system, with Joe Royal as the FA spokes man for the team and AN OTHER as taem coach I am behind him 100%.
It seems that this country's FA is run by politicens.
We will never win a major international trophy untill we get rid of these idiots, thanks for lisening to may unherd rants and keep up the good work paul, not only are you the best sports reporter in the north west, but you talk more sense than most of the national idiots.

Just to let you know that I used to work with your mother,I'm almost sure her name was Margaret, at Marshal & Snelgroves in the centre of Manchester. It must have been around 1964 or '65. I was thinking of going into the catering game because I'd been signed as a semi pro at Oldham Athletic by temp manager Gordon Hurst(I was 17 at the time) and it hadn't worked out for me. I was put under your mum as a kind of apprentice waiter and she was in charge of her station. She was a great boss, a bit strict but always kind and ready to give me a break when she could. She used to tell me about you and how proud she was of you and I think it was around that time or shortly after you broke into City's first team!I hope your mum is still around and keeping well but I suppose it's a long time ago.
I ended up working for Lewis's Stores and for a couple of years worked in the evenings for Colin Bell & Colin Waldron at the 'Bell-Waldron' Restaurant in Whitefield(1969-1971)They were exciting times especially when the 1970 World Cup was happening.I think Belly and the England squad were given a Ford Escort each with Mexico written down the side!!! Don't times change?
Any way once again I hope your Mum is still around and I hope this is a bit interesting for you.
Kind Regards
Neil

Although Chris Kirkland will be a very useful signing providing he remains injury free, I'd expect him to be very busy throughout the season.

I was interested in a section of one of the articles on your site, namely a reference to Colin BELL's Ford Escort Mexico car, given to himself and all other members of the England squad in 1970.
When I was a young Detective in Manchester at that time, I recovered a set of wheels that turned out to have been stolen from Colin Bell's vehicle, and I returned them to him at the Maine Road ground one morning.
He was very appreciative, and myself and another Officer
were allowed to meet Malcolm Allison and the players and were given a lunch.
I rememeber Colin Bell as being a perfect gentleman, and it was a pleasure to have met him.
I am sorry to hear he is no longer involved in the Manchester City set-up, but am pleased he has beaten a serious illness.
I wish him continued good health, he was a giant in the game, and should you have the opportunity, could you pass this response on to him please?
Kindest regards,
John.

Manchester United play their first 3 o'clock Saturday fixture at Old Trafford of 2006 on 4th November. I think all us put upon red supporters should set off some fireworks to celebrate!
I know of one Season Ticket holder with a young family who failed to renew this season because of the movement of fixtures.
Oh by the way our next Fixture at 3 o'clock on a Saturday is New Years Eve!
