League Two: Round-up

NOTTS County kept their place at the top of Coca-Cola League Two after a hard-fought 3-2 win at near-neighbours Mansfield.

The home side drew first blood when Richard Barker fired in from Chris Beardsley's headed set-up in the 15th minute.

Glynn Hurst was the main man for the Magpies again, scoring his second brace in as many games. He levelled the scores in the 18th minute before Gareth Jelleyman restored the Stags' lead on the hour.

Mike Edwards headed in County's second equaliser (82) before Hurst added the close-range winner three minutes from time.

Darlington climbed five places to second with a 2-1 home win over Rochdale, secured by a cracking Carlos Logan goal.

Former Leeds man Simon Johnson gave the Quakers the lead but the match appeared to have turned Dale's way when Matthew Clarke was sent off for fouling Richard Lambert in the box.

Captain Grant Holt scored the resulting penalty but Logan supplied the winner with 21 minutes left as his turn fooled two Dale defenders and he lashed in a shot from 20 yards.

Wycombe's goalless draw at Cheltenham moved them into the third automatic promotion place, while Grimsby are sixth after a 2-0 win at home to Rushden.

John McDermott, Town's 36-year-old defender, volleyed in the Mariners' first and the win was assured when Jean-Paul Kamudimba Kalala tucked in a 51st-minute penalty after a foul on Michael Reddy.

Barnet slipped from first to seventh with their 3-1 loss to Wrexham and were up against it after 32 seconds when Mark Jones put the Dragons ahead.

Paul Warhurst made it 2-0 (32) and despite Ian Hendon halving the deficit with a penalty in first-half stoppage time, Robbie Foy added a third for the hosts just before the hour.

Leyton Orient suffered a surprise home defeat to Shrewsbury as Colin McMenamin's third-minute penalty proved decisive at Brisbane Road, and the Os dropped to eighth.

Torquay, unlucky to be relegated from League One on the last day of last season, are still winless and now bottom of League Two after losing 1-0 at home to Chester.

The goal came in the third minute of injury time as Gregg Blundell's low cross was turned in by Ryan Lowe.

Macclesfield climbed off the foot of the league with a 1-0 win over local rivals Bury, Martin Bullock scoring the only goal in the 18th minute.

Northampton climbed to 10th by overcoming Boston 3-2 at Sixfields, Jason Crowe hitting the winner with six minutes to go, while Peterborough drew 1-1 at Stockport and Lincoln were held goalless by Carlisle at Sincil Bank.
