Rochdale V Macclesfield preview

THE game at Rochdale will present Macc boss Brian Horton with a tough choice after winning his first match of the season at Nottingham Forest in the Carling Cup in midweek.

Horton dropped close season signings Martin Bullock, David Beresford and Alan Russell to give youth a chance with Andrew Smart impressing on his debut and Mike Briscoe and Danny Whitaker looking polished on their return.

Horton had been hoping to play a more attacking style but wingers Beresford and Bullock have so far failed to conjure up enough chances and may be sidelined as Horton backs his new winning formula.

David Morley is likely to man mark Rochdale threat Grant Holt with Briscoe playing as sweeper.

Right back Mark Bailey is doubtful so teenager Smart may get another chance to show what he can do.

LAST SEASON: Rochdale 3 Macclesfield 0.

KEY OPPONENT: Rickie Lambert - former Macc striker with a powerful shot.

PREDICTION: Rochdale 1 Macc 1.
