MONTON Amateurs marched to the top of the Premier Division thanks to a remarkable 10-4 away victory at previously unbeaten Irlam MS.
A hat-trick from Kevin Callaghan, together with a brace from Wesley Jean, put the Amateurs 5-0 up by the break, but a hat-trick from Mitchells' Darren Andrews brought the home side right back in contention.
The joy was not to last, however, as Monton went 10-3 up thanks to Rob Crook, Neil Suggitt, Warren Collier, Darren Perkins, with Jean completing his hat-trick, though Irlam had the last word courtesy of Andy Davies.
The comeback of the day came at Avro, where the home side dug deep to salvage a point after falling behind to a brace from Springhead's Gary Wright and a Carl Taylor strike.
A Martin Moran penalty got the home response going, and efforts from Colin Shenton and Keith Morris conspired to clinch an unlikely point for the home side.
Wythenshawe Amateurs also had to settle for a point from a 1-1 draw at Leigh Athletic, Lee Williams putting the visitors in front early after the break before Kieron Halliwell intervened to level it up.
Dukinfield Town's hoodoo over Prestwich Heys continued as a 30-yard strike from Craig Smith in the first half proved enough at Blocksages, though the home side endured late Heys pressure to secure a useful win.
East Manchester's good start came to an end at home to Rochdale Sacred Heart, goals from Lee Oldham and sub Wayne Taylor putting Hearts in the box-seat late on before John Sarcevic pulled one back for East.
