Virtually constant pressure from FC United finally told in the 30th minute when Rory Patterson was brought down in the penalty box. Patterson then stepped up to score the penalty himself.
The lead however only lasted one minute as Dennis Hill capitalised on a mistake in the FC United defence to make it 1-1.
Patterson restored United's lead on the stroke of half time before Adie Orr made it 3-1 on 75 minutes.
A late consolation from Padiham's Craig Chadwick did little however to damped the enthusiasm of the 2,500 in attendance. Tweet

Mr Mystery, what a name, what a man, what a player! Another legendary day, think Ive even managed to convert a blue. Anyone beat that?
Fantastic result lads. Well done to all involved. Another awesome attendance. I am an exiled FC Utd fan who wishes he could attend every game. Following the Glazer takeover of MUFC I will no longer hand a penny over to that club, instead FC Utd have my support and I wish everyone connected all the very best.
Football played in the spirit that football should be played in. Man and boy in the stand, joie de vivre all round, two teams going at it tooth and nail on the pitch. Saturdays have taken on a level of excitement for me that I havent felt in oh, 15 years Id say. What a great finish by 'The Man With No Name'. He is a good player if something of an enigma. Also, what a great way to finish the game with Padihams second goal. Superb. Slalomed his way through the defence before finishing with aplomb. Role on Wednesday.....
i thought the atmosphere and atitude of the fans was much better than old trafford.I was very surprised at the level of player they have managed to attract to the club, the set up is very proffesional and hopefully they can get promoted.Lets look forward to next year when they can play united in the fa cup
A superb atmosphere, non stop, loud singing with lots of young kids there too (it's only B#2.00 for under 18s).
How refreshing to sit with your mates, take the kids AND be able to afford it. Roll on Wednesday night!
brilliant day, brilliant atmosphere, proud to be part of it', this is the real manchester united, watch us grow baby watch us grow
Another cracking day out,top entertainment as always, took the wife and she loved it,caught her on Sunday singing "Under the Boardwalk".
Another great day out. Surely this is what football is supposed to be about?I mean, without bleating about the funereal atmosphere at Old Trafford most days, people must be beginning to realise that things are not quite right in football? Players on astronomical wages with no real connection with their clubs other than money and status. Passionless and care-less. I saw a great t-shirt that summed it up for me. On the front read 'Punk Football' and the back read FC United. There has to be a revolution in much the same way as in music in 76 to bring the game back to reality. I think the FC thing has massive potential to reach out to the alienated and to the apathetic who sit in front of the tv screens. Football is more than being passive and waiting for success. This is the lesson I have learned by attending Fc matches. Its about participation and being actively involved on match days. Nobody who attends Fc matches can contradict that. Its about time we got over the hangover from Heysel, Hillsborough and Taylor report. Lets get back out there and reclaim the game from business. Forza Fc.
Great result against one of our main promotion rivals. It is also good to see that younger fans, who won't remember the O.T. atmosphere of year ago, are gaining an understanding of what it really means to support a football team. You don't just sit there and clap when it seems appropriate, or, cheer when a goal is scored. You literally have to get behind the team. Cheer them on when their heads are down as well as when they do well. As for the opposition, you need to cast aspersions about their weight, height, hair colour, baldness, sexuality in fact any idiosyncrasy you can pick up on (true or not) to make them feel uncomfortable, angry, deflated or otherwise put them off playing. That's the job of a proper fan. Real fans are not just spectators they participate. Personally, I would have preferred to be a player. I'm sure I could have played for England if I hadn't been born with two left feet. Many years ago I played in goal for the School team. Believe me, known other keeper in footballing history could dig a ball out of the back of the net better than I could. Except maybe Carroll. That's why I became a fan. Looking forward to Wednesday night and I don't mean the C.L.
Would just like to say good luck to your guys. Think its a great think what you are all doin. Hopefully you can do what my team have done (wigan ath). Remember the days of non-league. It just shows it can be done. I hope for all you fans that USA football club fall flat on there face. GOOD LUCK

Good points made by last two contributors but I would just stick to having a pint, a pie and a laugh and let matters take their own course. Ever heard the phrase 'the paralysis of analysis'?
I have formed my own Rebel team!! It is three on three action in the stadium known fondly as "The Back yard". My 6 year old plays goalie, My 2 year old plays sweeper and I play forward.
We are undefeated!!! Down with the neighbor kids and Forza the real team!
Went to O.T for the Villa game on Saturday, left 10 mins early & raced over to Gigg Lane to see F.C United. atmosphere no comparison. Roll on Wednesday.
Well worth the trip to satisfy my curiosity. Great atmosphere and football of a quality I didnt expect. Loved some of the songs, especially for the guy who scored the penalty. My last game at Old Trafford was in the 97/98 season. I remember the lameness of the atmosphere. Made a decision then to save myself the expense and take to armchair viewing. I dont know is it a mid life crisis but I felt something on Saturday that I had almost forgotten about. Its feeling that I if I want I can get involved again. Going to take a few more tentative steps over the next few weeks and see how it goes.....
Rock on Tommy, Tampa. You have just made the first tentative steps towards becoming a football fan. Now try the same down the local park, then once you become familiar with the routine of leaving your own premises, make that crucial step away from watching T.V. football by going to watch a football game 'live'. It might seem a bit strange at first, but in time, I feel sure you could make the grade.
I'll be there again on Wednesday and I'm bringing a mate or 2. Fantastic. Loved the Padiham game. The songs for Phil Mitchell and parody of the Kaiser Chiefs "I predict a diet" will live with me forever. Can't wait for Wednesday. Bring a mate and see if we can top 3000 for a midweek.
Tommy Tampax - you are a saddoe.
From a Blue looking in, don't take this the wrong way because it sounds like you are all well into this, but I've seen photos of FC United fans in Man utd shirts? How does that work, I thought this was a new club formed by disenchanted utd fans? If you are so disenchanted then why you still wearing man u shirts?? I've even heard people saying they support FC united but then still go to OT as well? Doesn't that defeat the object? Like i say don't take it the wrong way, I may be wrong. Just interested in the mentality of FCU's supporters.
You lot make me sick, going on about this is how football should be. Your just proving all those people right who said your not true utd fans. Im a Bury fan and will be till the day I die no matter what happens.
If you guys realy cared about football why dont you come watching a team like Bury thats got history in the game and badly needs support. Pathetic the lot of you especially as 2500 came down to our ground to watch the match last sat.
To answer both of the previous questions in a nutshell; We remain Manchester United fans but are not supporters. We will watch and shout for United but we will not pay a penny towards them for reasons which are tedious to go through again.Secondly, we will not support Bury because we have no connection tradtionally or historically with Bury. We are mainly reds or ex reds and FCUoM is aclub that enables us to partake of the social side of football with like minded people. Simple.
Wasn't it a mere few weeks ago that Tommy from Tampa was saying: (imagine moany Yank voice) "Why do we have to put up with FC United on our site? Why doesn't MEN give these guys their own page? Etc etc etc." Fast forward a week or so and .... what do we find? The very same Tommy can't drag himself away from news about FC United.
Paul the Bury fan, the whole point is that we couldn't just follow another team we had to create our own, otherwise we would be as bad as Glazer being deemed to have taken over a club that didn't want it. While we can understand your frustration surely you must appreciate where we are coming from. Is there any possibility of a friendly between the two to raise some funds for you our hosts. By the way it's a great little ground and the end behind the goal makes for a great atmosphere. Under the boardwalk...
Paul, Bury - You said, "Pathetic the lot of you especially as 2500 came down to our ground to watch the match last sat." Know this, I bought two footballs at Bury F.C. sport shop on Saturday and spent more money in the Social club. I won't be spending in either again. I've Just spent my last penny on Bury football club other than what we need to watch FCUM. I've done with people like you.
So are you saying the glazers are giving utd shirts away to ex reds now Stella? And letting 'ex' reds into OT free of charge?
What you really mean is this is a half hearted attempt at rebellion. If you were really so hurt by the Glazers takeover you would sever ALL links with mufc. What is the point in starting a new club only to say you still 'support' the nasty club that has driven you away in the first place. I came on here with a sensible question from the position of an outsider. The reply i've been given was to be expected.
