Everton V United: Player ratings

HOW the M.E.N's Stuart Brennan rated the Reds during Saturday's clash with Everton.

VAN DER SAR: One great save, inspiring handling and organising. 7

NEVILLE: Good solid display to wipe out memory of his red card at Goodison in April. 7

O'SHEA: His height was a bonus against Everton's long-ball and he got forward superbly to create first goal. 7

FERDINAND: Was relieved not to get the usual buffeting from Duncan Ferguson, but was quiet and calm. 6

SILVESTRE: Shouldered most of the central defensive burden. 7

FLETCHER: Spiced up his hard-working display with telling passes. 6

KEANE: Strolled through the game, but still exerted plenty of influence. 7

SCHOLES: Didn't spark as he can, but still posed plenty of problems. 6

ROONEY: Grabbed a gift goal, rose above the abuse and was again the fulcrum for United. 8

PARK: Bundle of energy up and down the left flank. 7

VAN NISTELROOY: Expert finish to break the deadlock and real signs that he is bang back in form. 7

SUBSTITUTES: Heinze (Fletcher), Smith (Scholes), Park (Richardson). Not used: Howard, Rossi.

EVERTON: Martyn, Hibbeert, Weir, Yobo, Pistone, Neville, Davies, Arteta, Cahill, Osman, Beattie. Subs: Kilbane (Davies), Ferguson (Osman), Bent (Beattie). Not used: Wright, McFadden.

GOALS: van Nistlerooy (43), Rooney (46).

BOOKINGS: Arteta, Neville, Pistone (Everton), Scholes (United).

REF: G.Poll. ATT: 38,610.
