FC United: Off to winning start

IT was a good day for Manchester United supporters on two counts - big and small.

While Sir Alex Ferguson's side were beating Everton, another red-blooded team were also getting off to a winning start.

FC United, formed by disenchanted fans, are playing nine rungs below the Premiership in the Moore and Co construction solicitors league, second division.

They got off to a flying start, beating Leek CSOB 5-2 at Harrison Park.

Their opponents had never known a day like it. They even had to delay the kick-off by 10 minutes to allow the United fans to settle in the ground after they had watched the lunchtime game at Goodison Park on TV in the local pubs.

Leek County School Old Boys' record attendance before this match was 238. They had an average gate of 70 last season.

Delighted

Such is FC United's fan base there was a crowd of 2,500 for this match with gate receipts of £10,000 for the delighted home club.

There was no segregation and no trouble, even though the rain lashed down as the fans made their way to the game.

They soon launched into song, mocking Rio Ferdinand as they unfurled their banners.

The popular song went something like this: 'We do not care about Rio, he doesn't care about us. All we care about is watching FC.'

The banners were also pointed. They paid £6 to sit and £4 to stand, about what you might expect to fork out for a prawn sandwich and a drink at Old Trafford. The pints had obviously been enjoyed as the fans managed to scoff their way through 650 pies.

That's after Leek had sold out 1,750 programmes, costing £1 each.

The weather may have been miserable for long spells throughout the game, but the atmosphere was exceptional.

FC United sealed the points with a storming second half comeback with Steven Spence scoring twice including the club's first competitive goal.

Steve Torpey and Adie Orr got the other goals while Colin Fletcher and Jake Johnson replied for the home side.

As the final whistle blew, the FC United players went to the fans to applaud them for their support. It was that kind of day and one those present at this neat little ground on the edge of the Staffordshire moorlands will long remember.

If you are going to report on FCUM, please do not use lines such as "IT was a good day for Manchester United supporters on two counts - big and small". FCUM fans are not Manchester United fans, they are not associated with manchester United and their actions in setting this club will have no effect on Manchester United. Manchester United fans support Manchester United, end of. I wish this silly little club would stop getting publicity off the back of MUFC, if you are to report at this level, then i hope all NWCL2 sides get the same coverage. FCUM= Sell Out supporters, who care little fo MUFC and care more for their self egos.

Yet another top day out with FC United. our team gets better by the game, and what a refreshing change to watch players who obviously love what they are doing...no spoiled pampered Rio types at this club!!
Still got a sore throat from 90 minutes of singing and shouting, some of the funniest chants I have ever heard, found a fantastic pub for pre match drinks, really cant faukt the day at all! Everyone was friendly from the stewards to the people selling programmes and in the kiosks..and the pies were 10 times better than at OT!
If anyone reading this has not yet had the experience of an FCUM game...get to one asap!!

So FC utd are nothing to do with Mufc?that depends on how you look at it.I'm a fan of both teams and happen to think that FC are an extension of the United family. You may not like it but there were just as many loyal reds a Leek yesterday as at Everton and i should know i was at both!

It goes;

I don't care about Rio,
He don't care about me,
All I care about is watching FC, watching FC!

Mr T you and some others are sounding more and more like the bitter berties each day.

Get over it, FCUnited gives people a chance to watch football with mates and if you want to stand you can, you can even sing, and you pay next to nothing compared to being ripped off at OT,imagine that, you know like we used to do in the older days before the glory hunters decided to think it's cool to go to united.
In one day at FC you can buy food, drinks, watch a game and still have money left over compared to buying 1 ticket at OT.
People can also afford to take their kids and wife for the price of one ticket at OT.
If you don't like it then don't read it, simple

Mr. T. 'I ain't getting on no plane, fool'. Wake up and smell the football. FCUM are here to stay. If it bothers you don't get your gold chains in a twist and ignore it. We might go away, like Glazer might.

Mr T I went to the European game the other night and there was no atmosphere at OT. Did you go? (won't wait for the reply but) did n't think so Mr Armchair idiot. I was at Leek. It was quality and I look forward to many years of the same. I'm waiting for my FCUoM season ticket where I can go watch a game with some atmosphere. I'll still be a fan of MUFC. You my friend are a snob. The lads who decided to start of FCUoM have started a dynasty. Just leave them alone and let them get on with it.

MR T IF THIS DOE'S NOT TELL YOU SOMETHING IT NEVER WILL 2.000 PLUS FANS HAVING A DAY OUT LIKE THE OLD DAYS SOMETHING YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT TROPHY HUNTER.

Mr T please continue to be a fool. MUFC fans around the world have wished FCUoM good wishes and tidings. You are a fool. I need say no more to you. FCUoM are here to stay and we will have a whale of a time along the road.

I think a treble is in order for this season.

Good luck to MUFC this season as well.

Mr T I am confused.
The redder than red Utd fans all moaned about FCUM being on the MUFC pages, now we have our own pages, you lot still aren't happy.
As for your comments, I am guessing that you are the happiest man in the world - as they say ignorance is bliss.
Did you enjoy singing "Rooneys scored a touchdown" on Sat, presuming you actually attend games.
Oh and do people have to feed you drugged milk in order for you to get into a plane?

I think Mr T has given up the ghost fellas. there were people at Leek who had been to both games. What a fantastic day. "Who ate all the pies?"

Some of us 'older heads' remember what is was like to turn up at a game with your mates, have a pint and some dodgy scran and then stand on the terraces singing ourselves hoarse for ninety or so minutes. That was exactly what Saturdays trip to Leek was all about. I had to set off from the north pole (Gateshead) at 6.45am in order to pick my friends up in Salford but you don't hear me complaining!!! This is what we do and I for one wouldn't nmiss it for the world. I met plenty of (ex) reds who gave up the ghost at OT due to the non availability of tickets who I used to go to away games with in the 80's. They like me have found their home...A club with Soul.
And besides, why can't WE go and watch both clubs...??? I'll be going against Villa on Saturday and heading straight to Gigg Lane afterwards. Another long day for me, but like I said earlier...who's complaining...??? Certainly not me!!!

As the flag says "It's United....Innit!!!"

About time that the terrific work of the founder members of FCUM was given some good press. FCUM thanks largely to sheer hard work and devotion to the cause, will thrive and prosper despite it's many detractors. You doubting Thomas', we are here to stay.

Mr T, Wat ?

Mr T - I'm an FCU founder member & SUPPORTER. I'm a FAN of both clubs. You can do both!

Support means pay to the owner but I'll not pay a penny to MU until MG has gone.

If you don't like FCU grow up & shut up. (Get off our pages - you do have your own where stage management, spin, lies & histrionic footy players can still be sucked up to.)
This isn't it though, so keep taking the medication & going to OT & when your money runs out remember you can always sell your house to help Malcolm clear the debt he landed you with.
