Roberto Martinez will be back on familiar ground on Saturday, writes Neil Barker.
The Wigan boss feels it is footballing fate that his Latics team are the first to visit Swansea City since the Welsh club’s promotion to the Premier League.
Martinez played, captained and managed Swansea before leaving two years ago to take charge of Wigan.
Both clubs are close to his heart and he is relishing what is sure to be a special occasion.
“I always said the two football clubs in my heart were Wigan and Swansea and this will never change,” he said.
“I obviously have strong links with Swansea having played there, captained them and also managing the team.
“Saturday is sure to be an incredible occasion.
“It will be a huge game for both clubs and we need to go there knowing we are able to handle the atmosphere and the occasion in the right way.
“That will be the first battle.
“We also have to remember that Swansea are a very dangerous team who can be difficult to play against.”
Martinez fully expects a tough test with Swansea licking their wounds following Monday night’s 4-0 drubbing at Manchester City.
Meanwhile, Wigan are still chasing West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie.
