FIFA to look at points system in football

Sepp Blatter
FIFA president Sepp Blatter has told a new football task force to investigate whether there should be a change to the system of three points for a win and one for a draw.

The Task Force Football 2014 has been set up to look at the laws of the game and come up with ways to make it more attractive, with the aim of introducing changes at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Blatter said in an interview with www.fifa.com: "Its objective is to assess tournaments and the way in which the game is organised.

"Let me give you a few examples. At the moment three points are awarded for a win and one for a draw, which is something we can discuss and decide whether it's a good thing or not.

"Is extra-time the only option we have when a game ends in a draw? And if we stick with extra-time, how should we end games? Is it worth taking another look at the golden goal? Some people like it, some people don't."

The task force is made up of football administrators, players and ex-players, referees and medical experts. It was set up in the wake of last year's World Cup finals in South Africa, where there was criticism about the quality and Blatter is keen to make the group matches in particular more competitive.

Should the points system in football be changed? Have your say.

it really is quite simple. just analyse the games of manure, arsenal, chelsea and liverpool and adopt whichever system benefits them the most.

Probably wants to change to 3points for draw to nited, chelsea, and arsenal, then take another look at it next season.

What a couple of STUPID bitter idiots you are. Didn't see you complaining after the game at Blackpool earlier in the year.

Almost as stupid as Blatter. Why not get a task force to look into any 1 of the following

- Video evidence: Both goal-line technology and offer teams the chance to call for a video ref in instances where a team disagrees with a decision or thinks a ref has missed a call the next time it goes out (3 calls each - the way Andy Gray and his minions play with it on Sky Sports, it doesn't look that hard.)
- Ensure players are sanctioned for blatant cheating the way they are for other infractions on the pitch: i.e. an incident like that poser Henry did to the Irish should never go unpunished again.
- Pump money into referring and make sure that they are accountable for their decisions: for the love of god in American football they have to announce to a stadium why they have made a call, that ref in the world cup who disallowed a perfect goal and then hid behind FIFA instead of offering an explanation. If you want to have the best refs dispersed around the world then allow leagues to pay for the services of referees. Example: If a ref in Kenya has proven he is capable of reffing far beyond that level (much like an African Footballer would) allow him to transfer to a higher level league in Europe; and then pick your pool of refs for big tournaments from those who have shown themselves most consistent week in/week out in the biggest leagues.
- Club Ownership; Nooo Club should ever be taken over by an individual or group of individuals who cannot sustain that club (for example: A club worth 1 billion taken over by an individual who needed to borrow 800 million just to complete the deal . . . Ahem).

The points system - when has anybody complained about the point system, can somebody honestly tell me they think that is the main problem facing football today.

"Should the points system in football be changed?" Why? If it works and isn't broken why try to fix it. God forbid FIFA ever do anything useful like clear out corruption. Then again...
