STUART Pearce's England Under-21s were crushed in their European Championship final in Malmo on an evening that featured a goalkeeping error and a comfortable German victory.
Mesut Ozil's long-range free-kick embarrassed stand-in goalkeeper Scott Loach but England were already trailing at that stage to Gonzalo Castro's opener at Swedbank Stadion.
Sandro Wagner then added two late goals to continue Pearce's jinx against Germany, after losing to them twice as a player in major tournaments.
Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer did not make a save throughout the one-sided match, leaving Pearce to rue leaving Daniel Sturridge with the Under-20s in the absence of Gabriel Agbonlahor and Fraizer Campbell.
City goalkeeper Joe Hart, on loan with Birmingham for next season, was suspended for the game. City's defensive duo Micah Richards and Nedum Onuoha started, with Onuoha coming off at half time.

Totally outclassed they played as a team but we were just a bunch of idividuals and what possessed PEarce to play Walcott on his own up front it would have been better to have put rodwell there on his own and have walcott on the wing, but that to would not have made much differenctas he may be quick but he has no end product.
I one way you can understand why Capello kept the old guard as nothing coming through the ranks. If you look at the team and the squad how many comand a place in the top teams not many the rest are just journeymen players.

That said Stuart deserves to try again, if his team had shown his spirit we would be holding the trophy now. Mind you they are better penalty takers that him!!
