BRAZIL star Kaka and former City target has revealed he has joined Real Madrid in order to help AC Milan to overcome their financial difficulties.

The Italian side confirmed the sale of Kaka to Real in an expected world-record transfer late on Monday night, before Madrid also announced the move on their own website.

Reports have suggested Kaka, who was also earlier linked with Chelsea, has signed for around 68 million euros (£59million) - which, if true, would smash the world record fee of £46.7million paid by Real to Juventus for Zinedine Zidane in 2001.

He had the opportunity to join Manchester City in January this year in a deal reported to be worth 100 million euros, but opted to stay in Italy.

At a press conference in Recife, where the player is currently on international duty ahead of Brazil's World Cup qualifier against Paraguay, Kaka revealed he rejected the move to City as he did not want to leave Milan mid-season.

"I can officially say I'm a Real Madrid player. My professional link with AC Milan finishes now, but my sentimental link will never end," he said.

"Real Madrid intend to build a great team, with historic players such as Raul and Casillas. We will make history again, both in Spain and Europe. I guess the sport project is very good.

"Manchester City and Real Madrid are two different clubs with different situations. At that time (January), it was mid-season, I had a strong emotional impact due to the Italian fans requesting me to stay, and I decided to stay.

"Now another chance came up and AC Milan is in a big crisis (financially). For me, the sporting project (at Madrid) is interesting and will be an important boost to continue my career in the highest level."

Real Madrid are ruining football, all this money. Kaka is just greedy when - only a year ago - he had said he only wanted to play for Torquay. Harry had a bid in for him 'but we can't compete with these prices'.

So Gary Cook was right afterall. So Milan bottled it in January, no doubt. And the best thing from that was that Gary Cook learned an awfull lot from it. Kaka is for sale just as every other player, when the money is right. But I think he would not have suited the gradually transformation of the club, nor would players like Messi, Ibrahimovitch to name a few. We will already be massive if we could end up having Tevez and Eto'o on board this window.

Cut yourself a huge slice of humble all the Garry Cook knockers in January - As we can all see he was right all along about Milan & Kaka - as the man himself has now said Milan had an agreement to sell him to City but he / they bottled it .... so now we can expect teh Media to be screaming about Real ruining football .... or are we doing that by signing Gareth Barry for £12m ? Better strap yourself for some more hysteria if Tevez does indeed move over from the swamp .... Nobody loves us we dont care !

He obviously didn`t want to come to City, and we only want players who want to die for this club, no matter how good they are, so no loss Kaka. CTID

Fair play to him. I understood the targeting of him by city in january because this guy is more than just a player. He's the benchmark for every professional bith in how he plays the game and how he conducts himself.

Also im just delighted that the scum across the road didn't think to let ronaldo sign for madrid and use the money to get kaka cos that would've been an unbelievable deal for them. What a shame...

Not too fussed about Kaka, he was the wrong player at the wrong time back in January. However, pardon my lack of financial nounce; but AC Milan turned down reported bids of £80 Mil + from City because they love him too much yet yesterday he signs for £21+ Mil less!!! The economics of it all
make no sense plus Kaka himself claims today that David Beckham was influential in him moving to the Benebau. "Does that mean he may have been a deciding factor back in January"?? I'm more excited about the possibility of Tevez coming than anything else for the obvious reason.

Does anyone else think we should just be targeting real madrid for players? I'd be tapping up the dutch contingency right now seeing as they're likely to be surplus to requirements shortly!

Bring in robben and van nistelrooy which although both are injury prone they're both clearly excellent players and so can improve the side dramatically when they're fit.

And we can afford to take the risk on injury prone players!

Spot on mate! Although I would prefer Klaas Jan-Huntelaar to van Nistelrooy .

Arjen Robben , Wesley Sneijder , Rafael Van der Vaart and Klaas Jan-Huntelaar would be fantasitc signings, BUT, how the hell would/can we fit them all in! I seriously doubt that they would leave Real to warm the bench at CITY.

No chance of usurping the mighty Barca from their throne in my opinion.

Wouldn't have said no to him coming to City, but to be honest at the time it would have been like parking a Ferrari on the drive of my 3 bed semi.

Maybe in a year or two when Madrid are still winning nowt. Who knows.

We only want players at Manchester City whose desire is to win trophy's and titles.

We all know Real Madrid is our feeder club so he may end up here eventually! For now he has joined a club that IMO are the Newcastle Utd of European football. There is something wrong with Real and I can't see any signings turning it around. Barca will keep Real down and whoever they sign will be long gone before that changes.

Rob South Stand Blue, about these Dutch players at Real Madrid. Sneijer is great, but probably stays or is bound to join Van Gaal in Munich. Huntelaar I think will have problems with the tempo in the PL. Robben? No way. Now here's an injuryprone player, and when he plays he often is selfish and act like a softy every time is is touched. I often feel ashamed when he fells to the ground playing for Holland. That leaves Vd Vaart. He would indeed be a good player for us. City would be a perfect club for him. Problem is, someone has to tell him and convince him ... If he does, we can all watch Silvie in the stands. Definitely worthwhile!!

I want to stay at AC Milan for a long time.....blah, blah.... Well done Mr Cook - you proved AC Milan and Kaka the fibber to be bottlers of the highest order. I wonder what Mr Platini has go to say about all of this; I wonder if he'll have the same critical approach to a non PL 'ruining football!' Anyway, moan out of the way - i wish Kaka the best and I look forward to us making the CL and in turn making Real Madrid and the others look mediocre!! I can dream!

Real Madrid are ruining football, the world has gone mad. Oh and this deal was done for the benefit of AC? Glad we didn`t get him if the deal would have been to benefit Milan?????

And of course the money YOU will be paid in wages will have have a massive effect on Milan won`t it. Got to love the honesty and integrity in football, gives you that warm fuzzy feeling.

i dont understand if Kaka said he moved because milan needed the money, why would milan sell him to someone for half the money that city offered?
