ALTRINCHAM FC suffered a very late postponement last Saturday when the referee called the game off just two hours before kick-off.
Earlier in the day a local referee had passed the game as fit to play but the matchday official, Mr Harrington from Middlesbrough, was unhappy with a frosty area in front of the main stand.
With opponents Eastbourne having already arrived in the area, Altrincham now face a four-figure loss on the fixture, which includes the costs of their opponents’ travel.
As the game will now have to be played as a midweek fixture, revenue through the turnstiles will also be adversely affected.
Nevertheless, The Altrincham Supporters’ Club (TASC) held its New year raffle on Saturday afternoon, raising important funds for the club, which is very grateful to all who contributed to this success.
Altrincham lost the services of goalkeeper Andy Ralph this week, with his emigration to New Zealand, where his ‘day job’ has taken him.
With half a dozen players injured or carrying knocks, the squad is now very much depleted, the only benefit of the postponement means more recovery time for those affected.
But with 17 league games still to be played, it looks like there will a crowded run-in to the season’s end.
Tomorrow [Saturday], Altrincham travel to Torquay United before returning to Moss Lane for the visit of Woking on Saturday, February 21 at 3pm.
After that game there is a Meet the New Recruits evening where several of Alty’s newer players will be on hand to answer fans’ questions.
Tickets are just £15 and include a meal of home cooked meat and potato pie, with a sweet.
Call the club on 0161 928 1045 to book your tickets.
